I never realized living in a small town could be so perfect. You know every one and everything going on with nothing slipping through your fingers. You watch the neighborhood kids playing pretend or sitting in the back of our old, rusty truck, staring at the sky wondering what you should do with my life. It is just the right size for a small family of a dad, son and daughter to thrive and live with no roadblocks. But that is not always 100% true. Sometimes things go sour, like what happened to me.
My name is Maria Banks. I have a brother and a dad, Andrew and Jeff. They are all I have and nothing will change that. I could not live without Drew. He is the only thing that I have that is keeping me sane. He works at a local cornerstone as a cashier and has had that job ever since I can remember.
As a sophomore, I have a summer job, but since school is in session, all I am forced to think about is my education and what college I will attend or what job I will have or if I will ever find a nice guy to marry. I probably won't have any of those things but I will try to snatch them.
The only one who keeps us up and running is my dad. He is a sales importer for our small Silverthorne, Alabama, but makes a decent amount of money. Without Drew to keep me out of the dark and dad's money, we would be trudging our way around the streets, without a home.
My life started the day I was born (literally). We lived in Chicago at the time for my parents work, away from family. My mom died giving me life and I will always respect that. After her death, my dad had to learn to take care of us. Since he wasn't that big of a family guy, he decided to move here, Silverthorne, closer to family so he didn't have to take the load of two kids. And let me tell you, Drew and I are not an easy bunch. Drew is a laid-back kinda guy, will do whatever when ever, the perfect first child. But then when I came along, I had some attitude. If something was not my way I would make it my way, whether it required head-butting, kicking, scratching or punching, it would happen. I don't know why I am that way, it is just who I am.
