I can't believe my dad is making me leave my life behind. I had friends back in Charlotte, South Carolina. Now I have to make new friends in some town called Rockport, Texas. I have never even heard of this place until my dad told me we were moving there. He told me it would be a good change for the both of us, but I really don't think it would be. I just want to go home. I mean I understand why he wanted to move. I mean it was mainly because of my mom.
My mom died two years ago from being in a car accident. I was in the car with her. We were driving home from a softball game. My dad couldn't make it that night because he got caught up at work. On our way home we were in an intersection and a huge car nailed us on the driver's side which is where my mom was since I was a freshman in high school and didn't have my permit yet. I woke up in a hospital bed with dad next to me. I asked him, "Where's mom?"
He started crying as he said, "She didn't make it." That was the worst day of my life. Once I was released by the doctor and told I could play softball again, I never stepped on the field again. The night of the car accident was the night I stopped playing the sport I love. I just couldn't play it anymore especially if it meant that my mom wouldn't be in the stands cheering me on. The thing was I was the best pitcher in the county and I gave it up. Now were moving to a smaller town and school district.
When we got to the town I looked around and there was practically nothing around. Just fields and houses. They were all farms, this must be some farming town or something. I don't understand why my dad had to pick this spot out of the entire United States.
We finally got to our new house and started unloading all of our boxes into our house. Once we unloading everything my dad came in and said, "Sweetie I think we are going to like it here."
I rolled my eyes and said, "I doubt it."
"Oh, come on Lexi, just give it a chance. Your going to love it I promise."
I crossed my arms and said, "Yeah, we'll see about that." I sighed and then continued, "I'm going to start unpacking in my room, since I'm starting school tomorrow."
"Alright. I'll start unpacking in my room as well." I just walked to my room and unpacked some of my things. As I was unpacking I came across my softball glove. As I held it, all of the memories started flooding back. I started to remember all of the softball games I was in. How my mom was always in the stands cheering me on. When she died I stopped playing just because I couldn't stand not seeing here there cheering me on. When I stopped playing all of my friends just stopped talking to me. I had no friends after that. No one to listen to me, or no one to talk to about anything.
I threw my glove over to the other side of the room and laid down on my bed and cried myself to sleep.
The next morning I woke up and got dressed. I put on jeans and a shirt and then my shoes. I grabbed my book bag and then ate breakfast and got in the car with my dad. He drove me to the new school which is called Rockport High School. My dad could probably tell that I was nervous because he then said, "Don't be nervous. You have nothing to worry about. Your going to be great."
I looked back at him and said, "Thanks. Let's just hope."
"Well have a good day."
"You too." I took a deep breath and looked at the same school. I got out and walked into the building. Everyone looked like they knew each other and as I walked in I felt like everyone was starring at me. I went to the office to get my schedule and then walked to my first class which was Math. I walked in the classroom and everyone stopped their conversations and looked at me. I walked over to the teacher and told her I'm new and handed over my paper that the office told me to give to each of my teachers. She read it and then turned back to the class, "Class this is our new student, her name is Alexis Caldwell. Tell us about yourself."
