The room is empty. I don't know who's room it is, but it's empty. The bed I lay on is the only thing in the room, and it's sheets and blankets are white. I see the doorknob on the white door turn until a little boy waltzes in with a goofy grin on his face. His hair is dark, unlike mine, shaggy, and hanging into his eyes messily. His eyes are a brilliant emerald green, mine pale in comparison, and his skin is tan, unlike mine. Mine is very very pale. It's my brother. "I haven't seen you since you were two," I say to him.
"I know, Lace. That's because you've been trying to forget." He says with a shy smile. The door opens again. An young man walks in, his jaw firm. He rejoices at the sight of me, and scoops me into a bear hug. He smells like the rain. Simon. My older brother. And chance- the little one. "Simon.." I choke, and begun crying into his strong chest. He pushes me back.
"Lacey, I love you." He whispers. Chance sniffles and agrees.
"I love you too! Please...don't go." I beg. Next I know, they're both choking on invisible smoke, gasping for air they'll never get, and collapsing onto the ground in bloody heaps. I sat crying, begging them to come back, begging then not to leave me. To stay. Yet, in all of my crying and pleading, I was unable to move. Just as I had been unable to nine years before. And that's how I dreamed each night.
