After my shift ended I headed home, it was late so I tried to keep my head down and just walk back to my apartment. I walked past a few people, mainly drunks or the homeless, truth be told, I felt sorry for them. No one should be deprived of a roof over their heads. I was deep in my thoughts when I accidentally bumped into someone.
"Sorry" I mumbled and kept walking.
"Aye Zoey!" The person yelled.
I looked up to see one of the local homeless men, he knew me because he always wanted to sell things to me and others that walked by.
"Hey randy" I sighed.
"So, Zoey, can I interest you in some lovely earrings?" He asked, his Australian accent shining through.
"No, not today Randy, I've got enough already" I laughed.
"Okay, how about some nail polish, lovely, top notch" he said, pulling it out of his coat pocket.
"And I'll give it to you for just $5" he stated.
I laughed and pulled out a five dollar note, handing it to him, he was to kind not to give him a little bit of money, he needed it more than I did. I took the bottle of nail polish from him and walked away, thanking him as I did so.

I walked into the lobby of the apartment building to see a man arguing with John at the front desk.
"Just let me see her John!" The man yelled.
"I told you, she doesn't want to speak to you, go home Alec" John practically yelled.
I cringed at his name, why was he here? Didn't he get the message that I never wanted to see him again. I walked over to the front desk to talk to John about opening the carpark earlier tomorrow because of uni.
"Hey John!" I said, completely ignoring Alec.
"Zoey! Come on baby, please, give me another chance" Alec pleaded.
"Don't 'baby' me, you shouldn't even be here Alec" I turned to him.
"Come on, let's sort this out, we can give it another go. I really want to." He stated.
"No, that's enough, it was over three months ago Alec, drop it" I said, walking over to the elevator.
I could hear him yelling after me, it started out sweet things, I walked into the elevator and turned around to face him. He was still stood at the desk with John holding him back from coming after me.
I gave him the fakest smile and just before the doors slid to a close, I pulled the finger and stuck my tongue out at him, childish I know, but hey, he was asking for it.

I laughed at myself and pulled my apartment keys out of my purse, unlocking my apartment. I walked over to my kettle and flicked the switch, getting myself a cup out and pouring milk and some coffee into it. I then threw my bag onto the couch and switched the TV on. It was the late night news so I stood and watched. Nothing really interesting was happening so I pulled out my cigarettes and headed onto the balcony, I lit one up and stared out into the city lights. It really was a masterpiece in itself, each building was a piece of art, each complementing the others that surrounded it. I looked up at the night sky, it was a clear night so the stars were shining brightly. I heard the kettle go off, so I stumped my ciggie and walked inside. Pouring the hot water into the cup. After swirling the spoon around I set it in the sink and sat on the couch, flicking through the different channels. It was mainly news shows or reruns of shows if already seen. I was to hyped to go to sleep yet so I put on 'pretty in pink' and watched until the phone started ringing. I walked over and picked it up.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hi, is this Zoey?" The voice asked.
"Yeah, who's speaking please?" I asked, the voice sounded familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
"It's Leo, sorry if I disturbed you, it's fine if you don't want to talk, I can go" he babbled, his words all jumbling together.
I laughed and spoke up.
"No it's fine, I'd love to talk, what's up?" I yelled, propping myself up onto the kitchen bench.
"Well actually I just really wanted to talk to someone, Alec left a while ago and I have no idea where he went, so I hate to sound needy but I'm lonely" he laughed.
I laughed and then replied.
"I think I know where Alec went"
"Really? Where? He just got up and left, didn't say anything about where he was going" Leo replied.
"He was just down in the lobby of my apartment building, begging for my forgiveness, yet again" I sighed dramatically.
He laughed and my god it was the sweetest thing in the whole world.

After hours of speaking and laughing about anything and everything I turned and looked at the clock on the kitchen wall.
"Hey Leo?" I said.
"Yeah"
"It's two in the morning, maybe we should go to sleep" I yawned.
"I think your right" he yawned down the phone.
"See you in a couple of hours, I need to go and pick something up before my afternoon lecture" I laughed.
"Yeah, I'll see you" he replied.
I hung up the phone and switched the TV off. I had a quick shower and crawled into bed, falling asleep almost instantly.

I woke up when my alarm started ringing, luckily I had enough will power to pull myself out of bed but I still felt like I could sleep for a week.
I walked into the kitchen, rubbing my eyes and putting the kettle on, ready for my morning cup of coffee. I grabbed two slices of bread and put them in the toaster, before going to the bathroom and pulling my hair into a ponytail. I washed my face and applied a small amount of makeup. After getting changed into some jeans and a plain shirt I walked into the kitchen and had my breakfast, before putting on my maroon converse and Nike jumper. I locked the apartment door and headed down to go and get my car. After I waved good morning to John I went and sat in my car, looking through my bag for my keys, after getting to uni on time I saw Leo standing at the sign where we had first talked. He looked up and smiled, waving as he did so. I waved back and walked out of the car, smiling to myself.
"Are you as tired as I am?" He asked.
"Probably, I could barely open my eyes this morning" I laughed.
He laughed as well and we started walking, we went our separate ways when he got to his lecture room and I went to go and pick up some papers from the office for a permanent car parking space. I smiled at the friendship that had blossomed between Leo and I in one day. I had never had many friends like him, he was sweet. He was kind and he was a genuine friend.
