"It's really nice that we're spending time like this after so long," you sighed in content and sipped some more wine from your cup.
"Feels as though the barrier opened centuries ago, huh?"
It's been six years since it did, four years ago since you and Sans met, and three more since you two started dating. The world has changed so much and humans and monsters alike are getting used to seeing each other. The hate and discrimination has died down significantly and by races are even accepted in the most parts. Though of course, there are still some humans who still don't like to get buddy-buddy with the monsters, there are a few of them and are not much a threat to the public.
"I've gotta hand it to Grillby, though. He sure knows how to throw a party," you smiled and stared into the restaurant.
Grillby's functions as a bar and a restaurant. Ever since they decided to branch out to the human world, their menu has expanded from alcohol, wine, burgers, and fries. The monsters- especially those who once resided in Snowdin- couldn't have been more ecstatic. Currently, Grillby and his wife decided to close the restaurant for the night -inviting their friends- to celebrate the anniversary of their marriage. You couldn't be happier to actually receive an invitation since you and Grillby had never really gotten the chance to talk to each other a lot. There is of course, the possibility he invites you because you were dating Sans, but you decided not to dwell on it and simply enjoy the party.
Sans couldn't hold back a chuckle as he stared at the dance floor. I guess Alphys had too much to drink. Who knew she could be bold when drunk," he whistled when he saw the usually shy scientist dancing rather excited next to Undyne.
"She can be so cute sometimes. I'm glad she and Undyne are finally engaged, you agreed.
"I still remembered when they announced and the majority of everyone just said, 'finally,' It was hilarious," Sans scooted closer to you to get a better look at the engaged couple 'getting their groove on' at the dance floor.
"Mmhmm," you slipped your hands on Sans and intertwined your fingers with his smooth bony ones.
The gesture wasn't left unnoticed and he looked up at you to give you a cheesy grin, blush softly dusting his cheeks. "What? Feeling bonely already?"
You groaned but you couldn't stop to the smile from appearing on your lips. "I knew you'd pull a pun sooner or later. I was about to take you to the hospital if you didn't."
"You're adorable," Sans chuckled and ushered you to sit closer to him.
The night continued just fine. No one got drunk so much they vomited or did something embarrassing for the rest of the world to see. You and Sans just sat at your table and talked to each other, getting occasional catcalls, wolf whistles, and winks from Papyrus when things got to cheesy between you two. Frisk just so happened to pass by when you and Sans were kissing and he scrunched up his face in disgust. Sans just laughed at him for being a kid and ruffled his hair. By the time it reached 11pm, Grillby stepped on the stage used for entertainment section and thanked everyone for coming.
"Ah, and before I forget, this evening is acually hosting two events and not just one," he announced.
The restaurant fell into murmurs. "What do you mean two? This is to celebrate your anniversary, right?" Undyne called out half drunk.
"Well, that and some other event. It's killing two birds with one stone," Grillby shrugged.
T-the second event is killing bird?! That is so brutal! I, the Great Papyrus, is to not participate in this!" Papyrus let out a horrified gasp.
The room groaned but they couldn't really stay mad at Papyrus. He was too innocent for the world. "As brutal as that sounds, bro, it's just an expression." Sans grin got wider as he explained.
"Oh! I see now!" Papyrus called out again. "Very well then. What is the second event for the night? And the real one this time."
Grillby faked a thinking sound for a moment before saying, "A proposal, of course."
"A p-proposal? Am I getting so drunk that you guys are getting married again?" Alphys hiccuped and in her drunk state, wiped her eyeglasses to clear her vision.
Grillby sighed before motioning Sans to come up to the stage. That reminds you. Sans has been awfully quiet since Grillby grabbed the microphone. You didn't notice it all that much since you were having a great time listening to Papyrus' banters. Sans was also quiet and stiff as he rose from his seat. You glanced at him with a confused and worried frown and tugged on his sleeve. He gave you a tense smile and squeezed your hand tightly before letting it drop to your lap again. The restaurant fell quiet as he walked up to the stage and took the microphone from Grillby's hand. Grillby stepped down as Sans cleared his throat.
"So first, I, uh, wanted to say congrats on Grillby and his wife. You've been really great, man. Thanks for taking care of me and Paps back in Snowdin. I dunno what I'd do without yah."
Frisk whined, "Just say it already!" and he was followed with laughs by the majority of the room including you.
Sans rubbed the back of his skull and winked at Frisk, the tension from his shoulders disappearing. "Finally getting some backbone, huh, kiddo?"
"Gah! This is the worst day ever!" Papyrus held his hands to the side of his skull and groaned.
Aw, cheer up Paps! I've still got a Skeleton of things I want to say.," Sans chuckled. You giggled and covered you mouth as The Drunk Papyrus tried to get on stage to smack some sense into him before being restrained by Undyne with a "that's enough Papyrus."
Sans cleared his throat again. "So, well, I think you guys already know why I'm here," He winked and turned to face in your direction.
The restaurant instantly fell quiet and all eyes were on you. You looked back and forth, getting overwhelmed by all the attention they were giving you, so you locked eyes straight with Sans After all, you were curious about what he was about to say next, even though you already expected the reason as to what he was doing up there.
The smile and the look of his eyes were gentle. "Y/N, hey...I bet you latest know why I'm up here. Your smart like that," he winked at you and your smile got wider. You propped up your arm on the table and rested your chin on your palm. "It's been ages since we've been together, but it still feels a little incomplete, ya know? I tried it a few times. Bought a ring three months ago but every time seemed like a bad time to bring it up. And sines Grillby here is celebrating, I thought, eh, why not?" he shrugged his shoulders and a few laughed at his antics.
"So, hehe," Sans smiled sheepishly and he cleared his throat. "Rings somewhere in your pocket. I put it in there a while ago."
You shook your head and you almost felt the room's temperature drop before clearing your throat. "I have to put it on? Sorry bonehead, but your gonna have to get your ass down her and slip in on yourself."
The look on Sans face was priceless. You almost couldn't hold back your laugh. The room started to cheer him on as reality snapped back to him. He chuckled and stepped down from the stage. He strode over to you and almost anxiously so, but his confidence quickly overpowered it. As soon as he got close enough, you pulled his collar down and planted a long kiss on his teeth. The room burst into cheers and claps. But most of all,
"Finally!"
