(Chapter 1)(letters to Mr. Unknown)

(Cherese' p.o.v)

Hm, I was getting out a sheet of paper and a pencil. The pastor of my church had suggested that I write to a lonely young man from Oklahoma named Derek; who was now in Saudi Arabia working in the oil industry. But what to write? I wondered to myself.
I began to write. Not really knowing where the point of the letter was going to end up. I started by writing... Dear Derek, this is a church goer of Gods temple baptist church...
I stopped and erased it. I started over. Paper wasn't cheap we didn't have the money to be wasting paper. I thought for a minute trying to organize my thoughts.
I began to write. Twenty minutes later I was sealing the envelope to send on its way to the Middle East. I smiled and went to take it to the mail box, our dog Shasta following close behind me. She always stuck with me, we were pals.
I put the letter in the mail box putting the flag up, to notify the mail man or woman that the letter was to be mailed out.

I couldn't wait for me to get a letter back. I was so excited I could barley contain my giddiness. But I had laundry to hang up on a line. Me and two of my sisters began hanging clothes.

The younger kids ran about. The farm was huge, working was part of it. Laundry, cooking, and tending to the younger siblings. The boys were out in the fields as much as possible, helping dad.

I thought more and more about the man I was writing to as the days went on with no letter back I became worried. Was he going to write back?
I sure hoped so... But for now all I could do is go back to my everyday life.
