Hey Guys! Thanks for stopping in to read my FIRST EVER fanfiction, I hope you like it! Please comment!

"John? Have you finished packing?" Ugh, your dad can be a real pain sometimes. You finished packing an hour ago, and have set about pestering your chums. You, Dave, and Rose are all travelling to visit Jade on her island. Since her island is remote, to say the least. You all have to fly to California, where you will then take a Helicopter to her island. You've never been on a helicopter before, but you are sure it will be SO sweet. You will imagine you a Nicholas Cage riding in to save a fair damsel, somewhere. You now wonder if Nicholas Cage ever had an island, or if he had to travel by helicopter to get there. You may never know.

You've completely been sidetracked by your ridiculous thoughts. You are beginning to think you may have under-packed. You will be staying with Jade for almost 2 months, but you haven't packed more than a suitcase worth of items. Perhaps you will add some more clothes. Your dad on the otherhand seems to have packed you just a little too much. He comes into the room carrying a seperate suit case.

"Uh, Dad? What's in there?" He gives you a quizzical look, as though the answer is obvious.

"The bare necessities. Deodorant, shaving cream, razors, other bathroom things. Enough to last over the 2 months, just in case you need to share." He seems worried, contact with him won't be that difficult, you can't call but you can message him on 'serious business'. But still, a father cares about the whereabouts of his child.

"I also baked a few things for the trip, save some for Strider and Miss Lalonde."

" I will dad, I promise." He has been baking nonstop this week, trying to cram as many baked goods down your throat as possible before you leave. This is the first time you will be leaving home without your father, and it's going to be scary for both of you.  "I'll be fine. You have to go to work, the cab will be here soon. I love you, and I will pester you as soon as I land."

"I'm proud of you son." With that, he gives you a farewell hug, tips his hat to you, and leaves for work. You are starting to realize just how much you'll miss him. As you watch his car pull from the driveway, you notice a faint light from your computer, notifying you a chum is trying to pester you.

The hot sun's rays scorch your skin as you make your way to the ocean. The trek is about 5 minutes, but you are so excited you decide to run the whole way and make it 3 minutes. Your long hair trailing in the wind at your back. You finally finished setting up the guest rooms in time for their arrival. Well they won't be here for another hour, but that doesn't mean you should dilly dally. You know for a fact you need to make sure the landing site is cleared off, and while you are down here you can make flower crowns for your friends when they arrive. It will be a ton of fun!

Not too far from the dock, you have a make shift helicopter pad. You have a significant amount of money, but you need it to last! You can't go around buying helicopter pads like there's no tomorrow. While it's hard to put a dent in millions of dollars, you tend to be a bit frugal. Well aside from this summer. You wanted to see your friends, so you invited them to an all expense paid for vacation to Casa de Harley! Or should you say Island.

As you sweep the surface of the landing pad clear of debris, you think you see a shimmering red tail in the distance. Your heart fills with a little hope. It's been over a week since his last visit. You quickly finish sweeping, then leave the broom against the tree where you found it originally. The red tail glimmers in the sun once again as the figure gets closer. Now running once again to the dock, you hang your feet over the edge and wait. Not a moment later, a head emerges, and fills his lungs with oxygen.

"Karkat! It's great to see you!" He smirks and rolls his eyes.

"Same to you Jade, sorry I haven't been around lately, I've been busy with training. But I came today because I knew your friends were flying in later."

"I'm sorry Karkat, I know how much you hate training. Also, about my friends, do you remember our agreement?" He scoffs, as if you had just asked if he could read.

"Yes I remember, I give you a few days to settle them in, then you'll introduce us. You want me to bring everyone right?" He splashes he bright red tail against the surface, then brushes his wet hair a little more out of his face, the sun is already starting to dry it. His skin looks a Pearlescent  gray right now, but it seems to change hue slightly every so often, you haven't asked why that happens yet. You'd likely get a rude answer in response. While Karkat is one of your closest friends, he is the grumpiest merman you have ever met.

Before you met Karkat and his friends, you had a very different idea of what they would look like. You suppose this idea came from Movies and TV. They all have a sort of gray skin, and dark hair. They also all have colorful tails and uniquely shaped horns. Some tail colors are common and some are not, and your horn shape seems to run in your bloodline. Merpeople live all over the world, just typically away from shores. This kingdom however lives near your remote island.

You check your watch and realize you only have 35 minutes before your friends are supposed to arrive, and you STILL haven't made the flower crowns. Maybe it's too late, unless you recruit  some help. You give Karkat a wide grin.

"Karkat would you like to help me make flower crowns for a little while?" He frowns, then gets an seems to brighten up.

"Only if we can try the idea I had last week about-"

"Done." You reach out and shake his hand, you were planning to try this for him anyway, why not get a little free help from it. He looks startled by your acceptance, but shakes your hand in return. He offers to get some blue and purple flowers near the shore and you venture a bit farther to get some red ones. Today is going to be a great day.
