I was laying in my bed. I could hear my parents yelling at each other from the other room, I wasn't sure what my parents were fighting about this time -they always fought- but I know that eventually one of them would leave and the night would become quiet once again.I live in a small crummy apartment complex in New York. The walls were thin and there were cracks in the ceiling. My room was a dirty white colour with only a twin size bed and a wooden desk. In the corner of the room was a built in closet, and the only good thing about the room were the books that were scattered all over the room, staked in tall piles.
My name is James, though a old friend I used to have in elementary used to call me Jem. I have dark brown hair and brownish green eyes. I'm seventeen years old, almost six feet tall and wear glasses - the nerdy thick black square kind. I'm unnoticed and uncared for, I mean, I think my parents love me but they're either too busy working or fighting to notice anything else. Usually I get straight A's, eat my lunch alone, and that's pretty much all my life has amounted to. A big pile of nothing.
I roll over on my creaky bed and stare out the window to watch the stars. Normally you can't see that many stars, with all the lights from the city blocking them out, but tonight, one star out shined all the others. It's the second to the right of the north star. This reminded me of the legend of the great Peter Pan. The boy whose shadow saves the unwanted children of the world.
This story was one of my favorites. I've probably read it a hundred time; when I was little I used to be obsessed with Peter Pan.
I close my eyes and make a silent wish to myself.
A wish that if anyone was to hear, they would surely be laughing and calling me names. Because a seventeen year old, high school student shouldn't be making wishes on stars.
A few hours later the yelling quieted down and I was able to fall into a deep slumber. I had dreams of a mysterious island where I could fly. There were other boys there, all ranging from five to eighteen years of age. We all were following a shadow around, it was a odd thing to do, but no one seemed to question it so neither did I. The shadow showed us the hole island, and it was beautiful. There where waterfalls and rainforests. The fruit that grow on the trees there tasted like heaven. This place was to good to be true. It felt like it was made of magic, which was why I loved it so much.

When I awoke the next morning I had the tiniest bit of hope. The hope that I was still on the island. But it was soon crushed when I opened my eye's and saw that I was still in my room. I guess it's true. You can't simply make a wish on a star and think anything is going to change.
I got up and walked to my closet, stretching my back as I did so. I pulled out a pair of light blue jeans with rips in the knees, and a white Dan & Phil t-shirt, with cartoon drawings of the young YouTubers on the front, and to finish off the outfit, a pair of red Convers that I have been dawdling on for the past two years.
I quickly walk out of my room, snuck past my parents -so I don't wake them up-, and went into the kitchen.
After I grab an apple, I snatched my messenger bag that I use in place of a backpack, and head out the door. It's not a long walk to my school seeing as I only live three blocks away. So I allow myself to walk slowly as I enjoy my crisp apple.
Once I arrive at school I toss the now eaten apple into the garbage and head to my class's. The first five periods go by in a blur before lunch comes up. I hastily get my, over priced lunch, from the cafeteria, so I don't have to encounter any of my fellow school mates, and head outside to the corridor. Usually no one comes outside so I can have the hole place to myself.
The corridor, or as it's more popularly known as to the students here, 'the court yard', has a giant slab of concrete with metal picnic table on it. Surrounding it was patchy dried grass with a few trees here and there.
After finding a spot under a old willow tree - one of the only trees that's not dieing - I begin to eat. As I eat my ham and cheese sandwich I notice that something feels off. As if someone, or something is watching me. I try to casually look over my shoulder, and for a split second I think I see some dark figure, almost like a shadow, outside the finances of the schools, but as soon as I blink, it's gone.
I shake my head, dismissing the thought. After gathering my trash I stand up and walk back into the building of torture- I mean, education. Once back inside a boy named Draco, with blonde hair and blackish eyes, walks up to me and throws his arm around my shoulders.
"Hey there buddy." He says with a evil smile on his face. " Have ya finished that homework yet?" As he speaks he tightens his grip on my should to the point that I actually whimper.
This boy is the reason why I try so hard to stay away form people. We actually used to be friends back in elementary school but when we got into middle school, he decided he didn't want to be friends with a nerd like me, so he started to use me as his personal homework machine...I also used to have another friend....though no one else could see her....
I'm snapped out of my thoyghts when he squeezes my shoulder even harder, instantly I reach into my bag and hand him a piece of paper "Here Draco." I say in a voice barely above a whisper.
He harshly snaches the paper from me, "This better get me a 'A'. Or else I'll - well, I'm pretty sure you know what I'll do. Right James?" I nod my head, and to my relief he leaves, going back to his other fellow jerks, but not before he pushes me against the lockers.
After that, the rest of the day went by in a flash, and before I knew it, I was home, and it was already eleven fifty eight. I had just finished my homework and was climbing into bed. My parents weren't home, they were both still at work, -or something like that- so the apartment was dead quiet.
I roll over and look out the window. Once again I see the same bright star I saw the night before. I take a deep breath, and make the same wish as I did the previous night, but this time I say it out loud.
"Please take me away from here. Away all the people that don't care about me. Take me to a place where I can be me... Take me to Neverland." At some point I had closed my eyes, and when I opened them I couldn't help but to frown.
I was still in my small room, still in my creaky old bed, and still wearing my Star Wars pajama pants and my 'I Believe In Sherlock Holmes' gray t-shirt. I sigh and lay back on my bed, closing my eyes before I roll over so my back was to the window and I was on my side.
It took a while but I soon fell asleep and had the same dream as the night before, except this time I had a second part to it. In the secondary dream I had woken up and the shadow was coming into my room through my window. The shadow grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the window but, instead of falling to my death, I was flying. We flew toward the brightest star; the second star to the right of the north star, until morning. But sadly after that everything becomes a bit of a blur, and the last thing I remembered was a beautiful Island with waterfalls and lushes green rainforests.
Hey! So this is just a bit. A second chapter will be posted soon. And if anyone can comment or vote to let me know if I should continue this or not. THANKS!
