"Run faster Jace or I will take over and run" River yelled at me while laughing. "Fine, fine, fine don't get your panties in a twist." I teased River. River took control for a brief second halting us. "Jace I don't wear panties, I'm a wolf, and me being stuck with you I know you wear boxer numb skull." He replied annoyed. "Well except when you were five and you put panties on your head." Teased River, triumph clearly audible in his voice.
"I thought we agreed to never bring that up again." I said to River, my voice tight. "And you know just as well as I, that I thought it was a hat with holes for your ears so you could still hear."
"Sure you did." River said slowly. On now he's just being mean. "Because all five year old boys help their mom with laundry and pick up a pair of panties while asking his mom, 'mom is this a hat.' while putting it over his head."
"You know what River?" I asked, sounding as childish as ever, "You're just being mean now. I was five and I love my momma, and if you ever tell anyone I said that I will kill you."
"No you won't." River spoke smugly. "I am part of you, so if you kill me you will die as well." Oh how I hate it when he's right. "I hate it when you're right River." I stopped suddenly, I smell something, a rogue. I swear I will kill that rogue! it's on MY territory! I thought to myself sprinting towards the rogue as the sent got stronger. I stopped hoping to sneak up on the rogue and my plan was succeeding.
"Shift now!" I commanded, some of my Alpha showing through. The rogue lowered its head in submission. The rogue trotted behind a tree and for a few seconds you hear the snapping of bones as the rogue shifts back to its human form. While the rogue was behind the tree I shifted to my human form as well. Seeing the rogue come towards me I immediately noticed two things, first the rogue was female, and second is that she couldn't have been a rogue for more than a few days. "Why are you here? What is your name?" I bark out in my Alpha tone.
"My name is Claire Price." she squeaked, " I came here to see if I could join your pack?"
"Why did you leave your pack?" I asked. Normally wolves only left their packs either because they were power hungry and wanted to be an Alpha, their mate died and they wanted to be alone, or, and this was the most repulsive, their pack beat them.
She kept her eyes trained on her hands fiddling in front of her. "I left my pack because they beat me, even my own family. My older brother was killed in a rogue attack when I was little and my father blamed me for his death along with my pack. The only people that wouldn't beat me was my younger sister and my mother. I'm gonna miss them but they won't get hurt." Claire looked like she was becoming disgusted by what she was thinking. " She's the packs little angel, everyone loves her. In their eyes she can do no wrong while I couldn't do anything right. At least my mother cared about me, she helped me to escape." Her face morphed into a look of pain and sadness.
In a way I knew how she felt. I looked at her waiting to see if there was more and the silence that followed showed she was finished and waiting for my response. "You can..." I started to respond when she cut me off. "Its okay, you don't have to accept me to your pack. I'm sorry I came." She got up and started to walk away with her head hung low while I just stood there speechless. Did she just interrupt me? An Alpha? Who interrupts and Alpha? Oh well looks like we'll have our hands full with this one. "Stop! Come back here." I slipped some of my Alpha tone into my command so she had no choice but to obey. Her wolf wasn't strong enough to go against an Alpha. She returned to her previous position in front of me.
"Claire what is your full name?" I asked. I can't believe I'm doing this, I'm going to let her join my pack.
"Claire Marie Price." She said looking at her feet. She probably thinks I'm going to refuse her request I told my wolf River. "Well no duh stupid. You made it seem like you would!"
"Claire Marie Price, I Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, accept you to join our pack." I stated as if it were nothing. "Come on lets go get you settled in and introduce you to everyone. There will be a welcoming ceremony this Saturday."
"Thank you so much Alpha!" Claire screamed running and giving me a tight hug. "By the way Alpha what is your name if I may ask?"
"My name is Jace." I responded coolly. "Now lets head to the pack house."
She responded with a simple nod as we started walking towards the pack house.
"Caleb I found a rogue." I said through our mind link. "On my way? Need back up or can you handle him?" He responded. Sometimes I swear this guy is my mom. Thinks I need help with everything. Pft who does he think I am? I'm an Alpha for crying out loud I can handle a freaking rogue. "It's a she and her name is Claire. She's going to be joining our pack, meet me in front of the pack house." "Yes Mr. Best friend!"
"Um Alpha Jace how far is the pack house?" Claire asked nervously and spoke my name cautiously as if I were to hit her for saying my name.
"Please Claire, Alpha Jace was my father, call me just Jace, and the pack house isn't that much farther. We will be meeting my beta out front." I replied jokingly.
"Seriously Jace? Alpha Jace was my father? You've gotta be kidding right?" River spoke sounding a little repulsed. River you are impossible I thought to myself. "What River? She's scared and nervous, she needed a joke." Silence. I can't help but think that River is just doing this to annoy me.
