Do you ever get the feeling of satisfaction when you complete something? It's a great feeling, and a part of our human nature that we can learn from.
In the society we live in, it can become a challenge to love what we have when we see others who have more than us. It may be a celebrity, a friend, co-worker, family member or just someone we pass on the street. It might be the car the drive, the clothes they wear or the people they're with. There are always people who'll make us feel like we are inadequate, and make us want to change ourselves into that person. This possibly stems from a very normal desire to be the best person we know, however there's a much better way to achieve that.
When I was a kid one lazy summer's day, I decided I was going to make a balloon car. After many struggles, trails and tribulations, I eventually did it and to this day I still remember the immense pride I felt as the sound of a deflating balloon moved around the living room. It may not seem much to me now, but that feeling sure does.
This is a lesson I try to take to other parts of my life. The fact that I'm here and able to write this piece for you suggests that I've come this far and turned myself into a person that I love being, doing things I love to do! I won't lie though, sometimes I wish I was somewhere else, with someone else doing something else. Yet a lifetime spent chasing the dreams of others is a life wasted, knowing you could have done the same for yourself.
When I write this piece, I refrain from comparing it to anything that anyone else has written. Why do I do this? Because I'm proud that what I write is uniquely mine and that it came from me. If I had obsessed over someone being able to build a robot I would probably have never tried to make that balloon car. It's ok to look up to someone, but as long as it allows for you to grow and one day be seen in the same light as that person. In essence, you only get the love you think you deserve, so only if you love yourself will others do the same.
