Marley!
Chapter 1; 'It's only the polite thing to do.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why aren't you speaking, Marley?"
Why aren't I speaking? I don't know. I try but I just can't let any words out. Not even a sound. What's wrong with me? I'm a freak. A disgrace of a human being.
"Marley?"
Why does she keep asking me questions when she knows I'm not going to answer?
"Ok.....? Thirty minutes of questions and thirty minutes of no answers..." Dr. Montierre mumbles trailing off. I sigh audibly.
Tap. Taptap. Tap. And it repeats. What the.... I Look over to see the doctor taping her pencil loud and hard against her clip board while staring sharply at me as if she's affecting me. If she thinks I'm going to speak just from that she has got another thing coming.
She leads me out into the hall and sits me down in a chair before calling my parents into her office. What a smart woman she is, leaving her door open so I can hear. "Mr. And Mrs. Joans Whatever has happened, tragedy or accident, it has affected Marley quite dramatically. I can tell she tries to speak but cannot. Your daughter has gone mute. Now if anything did happen I would certainly like to know about it considering your daughter gave zero answers."
Don't tell her. Oh god please don't tell her. Every single emotion I tried to hide will come flooding back into my mind. And then I hear my mother speak. The one name I couldn't bare to hear as my heart shatters into little slit pieces.
"Caleb."
"Caleb!" I scream as my boyfriend grabs my hand and begins to run.
"C'mon, Babydoll!" He yells over the rain. It was just a normal day and Caleb and I decided to take a nice stroll around the park when the rain came pouring down and drenched us to the bone.
We head in the direction of his house to get dried off. We reach our destination and begin to walk up to the porch. As we get closer we notice that the front door is open. We hear screaming. Elibeth, Calebs mother. Then a gunshot.....
"Marley." I snap out of my daydream and look up into my mothers sad eyes.
"We have no choice but to send you to your grandparent's for the summer." My father says.
Great.
~Two days later~
I'm on my flight to Avila Beach, California. When my parents told me I was going to live with my grandparents for the summer, yeah, I was upset but there was nothing I could do about that.
After Hours of reading Books and listening to music the plane finally lands. I get off and head out of the airport waiting at the bus stop. More sitting. Fun. After handing in my money i take a seat by the window. Another guy gets on the bus and takes a seat next to me. He's very good looking and looks around my age.
"Hi." He says. I give a small wave before looking out my window again. "I'm Junior." He tells me. I turn to face him and smile the sweetest smile i can manage before turning back around.
"Well aren't you going to tell me your name?" Junior asks me.
I shake my head, no.
"It's only the polite thing to do."
