The next morning was a weekend, so I was happy to just sleep in. I loved my sleep and couldn’t understand why people would want to wake up early. Why? Why would you do that?

“Hey, Keira!”

“Keiraaaaaaa.”

“I don’t think she’s going to wake up…” said a girl.

“Allow me, miss. This always works on you.”

“KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” screeched a voice, in the highest pitch possible.

I sat up in bed with a start, hitting my head on something.

“Ow,” I said rubbing my head.

“Oh, goody, she’s awake!” said Clara.

“Huh? What’s going on?” I muttered groggily. It was way too early to be thinking.

“Ow, your head is hard. It hurts,” said Luke, rubbing his forehead.

“Keira! Keira! Keira! You know, I was just thinking yesterday that it’s been ages since we went out and then I thought, hey, you’re part of the family now, well more than you were before, anyway,” she said frowning, “and then I thought, I should ask Dad if we can all go out together, you know as a family, to the beach or something. Wait do you like the beach? Oh my gosh! What if she doesn’t like the beach?!” she asked turning to her brother looking shocked. “You like the beach, right?”

“Huh?” I said even more confused. I looked at my clock to see it say 8:30. “Tell me everything again in another 3 hours when my brain is working,” I yawned going back to bed. “Night.”

“Ergh, look what you’ve done now Clara. You talk too much when you’re excited. You’ve bored her to death with all your talking,” he laughed.

“Hmph.”

I was floating in fairy floss until a huge tsunami made them all go away. I opened my eyes to realise I had been dreaming, unfortunately, and that Luke had just poured a glass of water on my head.

“My hair…” I mumbled. And then I realised he had just wet my hair. In the morning. The frizz! “My hair!”

He laughed. “Hey, we’re all going to the beach so if you wanna come, be ready in an hour.”

“You have to come Keira!”

“She’ll come, she’ll come,” said her brother, dragging her out.

I laid in bed and waited for my thinking to catch up.

Wait. What? I’d never been on an outing with them! Well, when I was little they’d take me to the park on my birthday…but since then…What was I meant to do? Wear? They said the beach right? I couldn’t even swim! Should I even go? Did I even want to?

I did.

When I was little, I loved my birthdays best, because I got to go out with the Evans. They would buy me fairy floss and I would play with Clara and Luke. It made me forget about how alone I felt every day. And I wouldn’t throw away a chance to feel like that again, even if I was sixteen.

I got dressed but since I couldn’t swim, decided not to pack anything.

“Do I have to pack anything?” I asked when I finally reached the lounge. “I’m not going to swim.”

“What?” Clara practically yelled. “But you have to! Why not?!”

“I can’t swim,” I shrugged. “No one ever taught me,” I added softly.

I could feel the awkwardness in the air, but apparently Clara couldn’t.

“Then I’ll teach you!” she said cheerfully.

“You can’t even swim properly,” said Luke a little surprised.

“She’s right, honey,” said Janae, “We’ll all help you.” She smiled and I returned it, though I could see the regret in her eyes.

“Don’t worry about packing anything, you’re about my size, so you can borrow my clothes,” said Clara.

“I can’t!”

“Why not?” she asked, putting a hand on her hip.

“Because…because they’re yours…and umm…” somehow, all my arguments fled when she glared at me.

“Exactly, they’re mine and I can do what I want with them. And I’ve decided I want you to borrow them. Now unless anyone else has anymore problems, let’s go!” she said, skipping off to the car, leaving me staring at her.

She was so nice yesterday. Was the chick bipolar?

“Yeah, she’s weird,” said Luke patting my shoulder. “You’ll get used to it. Eventually.”

“Uh huh.”

It was when we were in the car that I remembered my, for lack of a better word, creative wake up.

“Hey Luke,” I asked, “Was that you who woke me up in the morning?”

“Yeah, I dumped a glass of water on your head, yeah,” he smirked.

“Luke!” yelled Janae.

“Sorry, ma,” he called back, not sounding very apologetic. I’d have to get him back for pouring water on my head later.

“No, not that. The high pitched squealing sound. Was it you who practically screeched my name in the morning?”

He blushed. Awww, he was blushing!

“Are you serious?” I said raising an eyebrow. Clara was muffling giggles. “I have not met a single person who can screech that high. Heck, I can’t even screech that high and I’m a girl!”

He sunk further into his seat as Clara didn’t even bother hiding her laughs.

“Oh, that was definitely him,” she laughed, “It’s his way of waking me up when I don’t get ready for school. I really think he’s in touch with his feminine side, don’t you think?”

“Definitely,” I agreed.

Sorry, kinda a filler chapter but I've been busy recently. If you've got any tips to improve it - YELL 'EM AT ME!
