Chapter 3: The Cullens

Anastasia and her family headed to the living area, where the Cullens were waiting. They were all separated into pairs, except for one loner, who was leaning against the wall. Anastasia spared him one glance and notice he seemed agitated about something. He was frowning slightly, with his arms crossed. His hair was a dirty brown and spiked up. He was lean, but not too skinny. He had very light brown eyes, almost gold, that went with his handsome features. The loner of the group, she decided.

She continued to scan the room. The other two pairs of lovers, she concluded by the way the males either hovered or had hands placed on the females, were sitting on the couches.

She looked at the couple sitting on the love seat first. The girl was petite with dark, pixie like hair. She stared at Anastasia, smiling brightly. Anastasia looked at her mate. He was holding pixie’s hand and slightly leaned over her, like he was ready to block anything that was thrown at them. His hair was a curly blond, that reached his ears. He was thin, and looked rather ill. He was frowning towards the group in front of him. She nicknamed him 'sickly'. Pixie didn’t mind sickly’s protective stance.

Anastasia moved her eyes to the 2nd pair sitting on a different sofa. She noticed the beauty of the female at once. Her legs were crossed and she had a shrewd look on her face. It didn’t alter her looks at all. Her hair was long and liquid gold. Her eyes met Anastasia’s. She had gorgeous light brown eyes, like silk chocolate. She never adverted her eyes. Anastasia nicknamed her ’Ice Queen’.

Ice Queen’s mate reminded her of a grizzly bear. He was huge and stout, with a wild smile on his face. This situation didn’t seem to bother him in the slightest. His hair was Army short and dark brown. He had his arm draped over Ice Queen’s shoulder and his head angled to her, like she was whispering to him.

Her observations lasted no longer than a second. She turned her attention the leader of the clan.

“I’m very glad you could make it tonight. My name is Carlisle and this is my wife, Esme.” The blond man said. They both stepped towards Anastasia.

Anastasia looked at him and his mate. He was very young looking. He ran a hand through his wavy hair. Blond and parted to the side. His eyes were a soft blue and they smiled at Anastasia. He held out a hand.

Anastasia took his hand briefly. He squeezed gently and released. Esme smiled warmly and held out her hand as well. Anastasia found herself smiling back. She sensed something motherly from Esme and could feel the excitement radiating from her body. She could feel that Esme had a gentle and almost fragile nature. She had soft brown hair that went past her shoulders. Her eyes were a matching set of her hair. She bent down and hugged Anastasia lightly.

Anastasia stiffened and didn’t return the hug. She smiled politely and took a step backwards. Esme continued to smile and returned to Carlisle’s side, unaffected by the rejection.

The pixie stood up and walked, almost danced, over to Anastasia, “Hi, I’m Alice and this is Jasper.”

Jasper was on her heels like her shadow, “Hello.” He spoke softly.

Alice reached out for Anastasia’s hand, “ We’re going to be great friends!” she beamed.

Anastasia held Alice’s hand for half a second, “Oh yeah?” She raised an eyebrow.

“Yup, it’s inevitable.” Alice nodded.

Anastasia’s eyebrow twitched. She didn’t like being told what and how to do things, but she knew of Alice’s “special talent”. She would see for herself how her future held. She gave Alice points for being so upfront though. She could tell by Jasper’s face that he also didn’t approve of Alice’s forwardness.

Carlisle chuckled, “Alice can foresee things which have yet come to part.”

Limited though, Anastasia thought. The future is always subject to change. Her mother had told her of their special talents. Well, what Carlisle had told her at least. There could always be hidden secrets. Her mother had also told Carlisle about her family’s talents, except for Anastasia’s. That was left as a surprise. She did tell them about her true nature, and Anastasia was very displeased with her mother for that. They would continue their argument later tonight...

The grizzly bear came up next, with his wild smile. She resisted the urge to growl. He came up too fast and too friendly.

“I’m Emmett. Finally there’s others to hang out with!” He held out his hand and squeezed Anastasia’s. A normal human bones would’ve turned to dust.

She glanced at Lucious and saw that he was smirking. I guess he likes this one, she thought. She shook her hand and decided to change his nickname to ‘Hulk’.

Emmett laughed loudly, “Sorry about that.”

He turned and nodded towards the Ice Queen, “That’s Rosalie.”

Rosalie decided it was her cue. She shook her hair, got up and glided to Anastasia. She didn’t bother shaking hands. She kept her face polite, but Anastasia could see the ice behind it.

“Hello.” She simply said and grabbed Emmett’s hand. They went back to the their original seats.

Last, was the lone one. He pushed off the wall and strode to them. He took Anastasia’s hand gently, hardly touching her skin.

“Hello, my name is Edward. Welcome to Forks.” He said.

“Thank you.” Anastasia replied, letting go of his hand.

She continued to look up into his face. He seemed to be searching her face with his eyebrows slightly pulled together. She felt irritated for some reason and turned her body towards Carlisle once again. She felt encircled by too many bodies. Her family on one side and the Cullens on the other, minus Hulk and Ice Queen.

Esme seemed to notice her uneasiness, “Why don’t we sit in the lounge?” She offered.

Anastasia shook her head, “I’m fine here.” She didn’t want to be here any longer, but she knew Carlisle was bubbling with questions and anticipation. She could feel them almost bursting out of him.

Anastasia’s parents and Lucious walked over to the living room. Her parents chose the empty sofa and sat down. Anastasia frowned slightly. It seemed like her parents were trying to show her of their acceptance of the Cullens. Lucious was always too laid back. He ploped on a single chair and slouched down, grinning. Carlisle and Esme took their place on a ottoman. Edward returned to his wall. Only Benjamin and Anastasia stood where they were. She sighed inwardly.

Anastasia took in the room for the first time. It was extremely large and open. The walls were all made of glass, showing the dark forest behind the house. There were 5 couches and a couple single chairs placed along the walls around the room, refurbished antiques. It didn’t lessen the space. The tile was a glistening white and spotless.

Carlisle called Anastasia attention back, “Anastasia, tell us about yourself. I’ve only heard a few things from Edmund and Giselle.” He referred to her parents.

Anastasia remained quiet for a moment. She already knew what she was going to do. She smirked slightly, “Allow me to show you.”
