In the dead of night a wolf’s howl breaks the silence. I quickly jolt upright in bed. That was the signal, the coast was clear. I quietly got out of bed and crept across the room, careful not to wake anyone. I then opened my window and stood there soaking the cool night air. Then I was gone, with only the curtains blowing in the wind behind me.
I jumped off the roof and hit the ground running. The sound of my bare feet hitting the sidewalk echoed as I ran towards the clearing. I stopped in front of Martin’s house and picked up a few pebbles from the ground. The sound of the pebbles hitting the glass rang out through the silence. I see a silhouette appear in the window behind the curtains. As he pushed the curtains aside I saw him wipe the sleep out of his eyes. He opened his window and began to climb out slowly.
“Hurry up!” I whispered. “If you make me late you’re dead.” I told him
“I’m coming, besides I’m much stronger than you.” He said as he jumped down from the roof next to where I was.
As we got to the clearing we saw Brittany and Meredith waiting for us. Just then a wolf the size of me pounced and pinned me to the ground. The wolf had light brown fur and dark brown eye. I heard Martin behind me begin to growl. That’s when instinct took over, I felt myself begin to change. I felt my spine arch and my nails turn in to claws my vision was a red haze in till I was in full wolf mode with my dark brown fur brisling and my dark eyes looking into the other wolfs eyes. My strength increased and in a second I was on top of the unknown wolf. Before I could go in for the kill I cocked my head to the side. The wolf seemed to smile and I realized it was another member of the pack. It was my friend Jake; I’ve seen him a lot at school in human form. It’s been so long since I’ve seen him in wolf form. Then Ari walked with her dirty blond fur swaying with the night breeze.
Jake and Ari are peripherals. That means they’re pack but they live on the outskirts of our territory so they don’t always come to the meetings. Zach and Matt got there in wolf form. Zach a more reddish brown color and Matt a regular brown. Most of our pack are brown wolves either with highlights of red or blonde but we have 2 white wolves, Martin and Brittany. White wolves are rare so our pack is lucky to have 2. Once everyone arrived we began. We really don’t have a pack alpha but Brittany and I usually head the meetings. Each of us has a job. Martin, Zach and Matt since they’re only male wolves regularly, they’re the gatherers. That means they hunt and get the food for us that we stockpile. Brittany and I are the scouts and make-shift alphas at the meetings. The scouts will go around the perimeter of the territory making sure no one is taking territory for themselves. Meredith is the maternal wolf who takes care of the pack when it comes to most of the mother wolf stuff
She has been acting weird though. She’s been demanding more power in the pack, wanting to make herself the alpha. This was the very same meeting where she finally went to far. This was the meeting where she had to go.
“Matt, change back right now young man” I said as Brittany and I walked to the front of the pack after everyone got into their human form.
Matt being the newest wolf was the hardest to make change back into his human form. He loved his wolf form so much. Brittany and I had taken over as his friends and I took care of him as a mother. I had found him sleeping in the woods behind my house and that’s where he now lives with me bringing him food and clean cloths I steal from my brother.
“So, shall we begin?” I asked the pack. Just then Meredith stood up all 4’3” of her. She came up to the front and faced me and only me.
