Chapter One: Bass-Brooks Brunch and the Return of Queen Evelyn.
The constant clicking of Evelyn's Louis Vutton heels notified the great real estate mogul of her arrival. With as warm as a smile he could manage, Bart Bass greeted his late business partner's only daughter.
"Evelyn, I didn't think you could make today, well according to what Mark told me," Bart said referring to Evelyn's father and the fact that Evelyn had been away for the past year.
"Well, I know how much this brunch meant to my mother, so I decided to come home," Evelyn sweetly smiled as looked around the room checking to make sure every single thing was perfect. For Evelyn this wasn't just a brunch for Bass Industries, which Evelyn's family owned fifty percent shares in, it was a brunch celebrating her mother and Bart's former business partner and best friend.
Bart and Evelyn's mother, Charlotte, both grew up dirt poor and across the street from each other. Throughout the years, Bart and Charlotte became best friends. When they were 18, the friends decided to go into real estate together. From then on their empire continued to grow. By the time Charlotte and Bart were nearing their thirties, their empire was creeping toward being one of the greatest real estate empires in the world. At 29, Charlotte married long time boyfriend, Mark Hanna, and three years later, they welcomed their only child, Evelyn. Coincidently, Bart and his partner welcomed their child, Charles, two months before Evelyn.
Evelyn and Charles were raised together. Mostly they were raised by the same nannies in the same Upper East Side apartments. When Evelyn's mom died in a car accident two years ago, Chuck was the first person to call her and offer his condolences and tell her that if she ever needed anything he was there for her. They were best friends. The key word being were. To tell the truth Evelyn didn't know where her and Chuck's friendship stood. It had been a little less than a year with absolutely no contact with each other.
"Charles is upstairs in his suite if you want to go find him. I sure he would love to see you," Bart warmly smiled causing Evelyn to nod her head and proceed toward the elevators.
When Evelyn arrived at the door to Chuck's suite, she let out a soft sigh and went to knock on the door. As her fist inched toward the door, the door suddenly burst open, with the maids stumbling out of the room their clothes on slightly sideways. Evelyn rolled her deep brown eyes as she waited for the girls to pass. As the door began to close, Evelyn grabbed the door and walked into the hotel room that smelled of expensive liquor and cheap sex.
"This place actually smells of Scotch and Sex, how could I ever guess that this was your room?" The soft and silky voice boomed in the boys' ears as they turned their head toward the door, smiles growing on their faces.
"Evelyn Marks has returned from the dead," Chuck smirked as he went over to hug his best friend.
"You know I wouldn't have missed this for the world," Evelyn smiled sweetly. "Ouch Charles who did you mess with. And please don't say the mafia."
"That kid popped you pretty good, huh? Never mess with a guy's sister," Nate smiled in amusement as he added to Evelyn's pestering of Chuck Bass.
Evelyn slapped her arm over Chuck's chest causing him to let out a small groan of surprise mixed with pain. "You messed with a boy's sister," Evelyn hissed.
Chuck gave her an innocent look before turning back to Nate and saying, "If I knew his name I'd hunt him down and kill him."
