"Finally some heat, thank God they sent us home early." Emma said rubbing her hands together.

"Tell me about it, God bless broken heaters because either way we get a long weekend." I responded pulling the gloves off my hands and tucking them into my coat pocket.

Emma grabbed our favorite seats at the counter quickly, being the most popular coffee shop in town it would fill up fast with cold, hungry, high schoolers. After setting our stuff down we joined the line.

"Welcome to sips, what can I get you?" Tyler asked as he pulled his apron over his head, and unlocked the cash register. Tyler is our best guy friend and bonus his parent's own sips. Not to mention he and Emma have been dating for almost two years now.

"The usual." Emma chirped leaning over the counter to kiss him.

"Oh spare me." I rolled my eyes. "Get me a cinnamon hazelnut and a bagel."

"Okay grouch." He pretended to be hurt. "Go sit and i'll bring it over to you guys, that is if Jason ever decides to get off his phone." He said yelling over his shoulder at his little brother who just started working there this year. They had a family tradition that freshman year the kids always started working at the shop. Tyler basically runs it when his parents aren't there, since hes been working there for 3 years. Jason rolled his eyes and headed over to the machines, while Emma and I sat down.

I took out my textbook to start working on my chem homework while Emma yammered on and on about her daily gossip.

"I can't believe Mrs. Rodriguez said this... or get this Kelsey Witt hooked up with... or that rumor that the Howard twins got with the same girl." Word vomit spewing everywhere. That girl can talk, and she speaks like she's got too much to say and not enough time to say it.  Every now and then i'll throw in an 'mhm' to make it seem like i'm listening. You learn a few tricks when you've known someone your entire life.

Sips was filling up pretty fast, every time someone would walk in the little bell would chime and a cold gust of wind would hit me making it hard to pay attention to Emma or my homework. I looked up and something finally held my attention. My ex boyfriend Blake and his new blonde bimbo Christina. They were making out right outside the window, cute. She had his leather jacket tossed over her shoulders.

"Are you even listening to me Gabby?" Emma whined before realizing where my attention was. "What an ugly couple." Emma said trying to soothe my jealousy.

"You could say that again." I said putting my chin in my hand.

"Don't worry about them Gab karma will get to them, and if it doesn't you bet your ass I will. No one cheats on my best friend." Emma told me trying to sound tough, I mean she did as well as she could've hoped being a barely five feet tall with little blonde curls.

"Yeah, you'll put them in their place." I laughed.

Blake and I dated for more than a year and he treated me so well, better than anyone would have expected him to considering he was the schools 'bad boy' that's why it was such a shock to me when a little over a month ago in November I caught him rolling around with Christina before homecoming. Needless to say I started the new year single. I wouldn't say that that I was friends with Christina but we had worked together on a few projects, and smiled politely at each other in the hallways, most importantly she was fully aware that we were dating and as far as I know so was Blake. He never ad a reason to think otherwise. Homecoming night he was supposed to pick me up at six, six passed and so did seven so I drove to his house to make sure he was okay. I let myself in, only  to find Christina and him fucking on the fucking clothes I bought him, and I haven't spoke to him since. Though he's had the nerve to tell his friends i'm being immature about the whole thing. I call it respecting myself, he can call it whatever he wants.

I guess I zoned out staring at them and they had walked in to the sound of the chiming bells, and waited on line. By this time Tyler was finally bringing over our food and drinks.

"Damn Gab, if looks could kill she'd sure as hell be dead." Tyler laughed setting my cup down in front of me.

"Yeah, I wish." I chuckled sipping my hot coffee.

Emma laughed and swatted me on the shoulder, and I rolled my eyes. Then Emma went on spewing her gossip for another 20 minutes.

"Oh My God!" I heard someone scream.

"Someone get help." Blake yelled.

"Oh shit." I swore hopping off the bar stool and rushing over to where the crowd was forming I was glaring over at Blake and Christina's table when she fell. I knelt down next to her and elbowed Blake aside. She was seizing, I had learned a few things over the years from my mom since she is a paramedic but I still don't know much. I turned her on her side as well as I could and shouted orders left and right for people to help me but they were all in too  much shock. I called over my shoulder for Tyler who was staring blankly at the scene and told him to call for help and he quickly broke out of his trans and did so.

"She's not breathing." Someone felt the need to shout from the crowd behind me.

"I can fucking see that."  I screamed tears forming in my eyes. I didn't know what to do and  I felt so much pressure.  I tried to clear her airways so many times but nothing I knew was working. Finally the paramedics arrived and Blake helped me up and was holding onto my shoulder as Emma and Tyler walked up to us. I jerked my arm away from him and fell into Emma and sobbed. Tyler's arms closed around us. We stayed like that for what seemed like forever.

"What the hell." Tyler kept saying as if he couldn't believe what had just happened. I couldn't blame him, I had a hard time wrapping my head around it too.

The paramedics took Christina to the hospital and eventually my mom came back for me. She drove us all home and we left our cars there because none of us were in an okay state to drive. I didn't say a word the whole ride home and all my mom kept saying was "You did everything right Gabby, don't try to blame this on yourself."

All I could think about was what I said to Tyler, "I wish."
