Lexi Ainsworth as Mare.

Mare's POV

I sighed in complete embarrassment.
What have I done?
I'll tell you.
I'm the next bachelorette.
Yep. You heard me.
Fourteen men will be vying for my unconditional love, and I can only choose one. God, I'm an idiot. But, this was my own decision, so I'm gonna have to deal with it.

The show starts filming Monday next week. With only one week to prepare myself, packing seems like a fairly good idea. I drag my suitcase out of my closet and throw in random items of clothing. They will probably give me nicer clothes to wear while filming anyway. Once I feel as if I have enough clothes, I plop myself down on the lid of my suitcase and zip it closed with great difficulty. I heave myself up off of the suitcase and collapse on my bed with my phone clutched to my chest. I'd better call my mum and Elenor and tell them the wonderful news (See that lil bit o' sarcasm there? Huh?).

My mum answers after the second ring and I mentally prepare myself for her reaction.
"Hi mum."
"Mare, darling, how fantastic to hear from you again!" She exclaims.
Shit, she's in a good mood. Oh well, at least she'll take the news a little better.
"Uh yeah." I mumble.
"Mare, what's going on?"
I hate it how she can literally read my mind.
"Well, I kind of........um....I'm the next bachelorette."
"That's great news! I love that show!" She practically squeals.
"Really? I'm not in trouble?"
"Darling, it's your life, live it however you want. And no I'm not mad, I get to see you on live television."
I'm stunned. I thought that I would be in some deep shit, and that mum would go batshit crazy. The gods must be smiling down on me today.
"I have to go now Mare. I love you sweetie pie!"
I'm a 23 year old woman, and she still talks to me like a child.
"Bye mum, love you too." I sigh and hang up. Now for Elenor.

I lift the phone to my ear and wait for her to pick up.
"Hey Mare." She picks up after the fourth ring.
"Hey El."
"Why are you calling? It's like 4:30 in the morning." Startled, I peer over at my bedside clock. 12:30pm. I groan.
"Gotcha!" Elenor chirps.
"Very funny. I gotta tell you something."
"What?"
"I'm the next bachelorette." Elenor shrieks unintelligibly.
"For real?" She asks after a long pause.
"For real." I confirm.
"Wow." She mutters.
I hear a voice in the background.
"Mare, I've got a date. Bye honey." She says.
"Bye El.'" I say and hang up.
Okay, I've broken the news to the only two people that would care, and now I can go and relax.

I make myself some popcorn and settle down on the couch to watch old reruns of the bachelorette, just to see what hell I am going to be put through.
