It had been a very long time, since Stevie was excited about this particular day. Usually, she wouldn't get to spend it with the one person she wanted to, or she would be all alone altogether, sometimes, with her close group of friends, but it would never feel like Valentine's Day.
This year it was different though. She had plans with Lindsey. She expected him to be spending such day with his own wife for over ten years, but she was glad to find out Kristen was out of the city and she would have Lindsey all to herself. True, this wouldn't have happened if the woman was around, but nevertheless...
Getting out of bed after eleven, Stevie only managed to go to the bathroom, before she heard the doorbell, wondering who it could be, since she wasn't expecting anyone. Putting on her robe, she went to open the door, unable to fight back a smile spreading across her face – a delivery man stood on the other side, holding a huge bouquet of long stem red roses. She closed the door after accepting the flowers, her eyes fixed on the card sitting in the middle. First, she searched for a big enough vase, before opening it. A short poem in Lindsey's hand writing made her heart melt.
A few minutes later, there was also a phone call.
"Did you get the flowers?"
"Yes, I did, thank you. You shouldn't have."
"Nonsense. I hope we're still on for tonight?"
"Of course we are, Linds. I should be ready at seven, right?"
"At seven, yes."
"Well, I'll see you later then."
"I love you."
"Love you, too."
Saying goodbye, she got more excited than she already was, butterflies in her stomach doing back flips.
Stevie was concentrated on nothing but looking the best for Lindsey. She used up the time until the very last minute; showering, doing her hair and makeup, picking out the most flattering piece of clothing she owned. She also made sure she looked through all of her jewelry, until she found a bracelet he had given to her way way back. She doubted he'd remember it, but if he did, she knew it would make him feel wonderful.
It was only a couple of minutes after seven in the evening, when Stevie heard a car and a moment later, she was going to answer the door, seeing a very dapper looking Lindsey in front of her.
"Good evening." He said and it took her a second to get over just how great he looked.
"Evening to you too." She finally replied and let him in.
Stepping closer to her, Lindsey slid his arm around her waist, leaning to kiss her lips. "You look..." He started, his eyes wandering from hers, down her face and settling on her, very rarely, exposed chest. "... divine."
"As do you."
"Are you ready to go?"
"Yes." Stevie gave a nod of her head. "I'll just grab my purse."
They left in minutes, Lindsey leading her to his car, as he then opened the passenger's door, then went around the front and got in himself.
"I would love it if you were like this everyday."
"Well, if I was, you wouldn't be impressed with me now, would you?" He smirked, starting the engine of the car.
While driving to the restaurant, where Lindsey had made reservations, they chatted about casual things mostly, catching up, since they had hardly seen each other after the tour was over. Knowing it was risky, going out in public, but tonight, he really didn't care. He had a woman like Stevie on his arm and he wasn't not going to show her off. He was pretty much used to suspicions from Kristen anyway.
