I step on to the air tram as the smooth dark blue silk of my gown slides back down to my ankles, covering my feet once again. I decide not to sit so my dress would not wrinkle, nothing could go wrong, not tonight. My mother stands at my side wearing what all female parents are given to wear on the night of their children's banquets, a sheer black dress with a white belt. I hear the ding of tram that announces to the passengers that the doors are closing, which only makes me more nervous. I feel the tram shift, and realize I'm moving, which makes me breath deeply. This banquet is the most important thing in my life. The banquet is held every year in the capital city of Clarist, Carij. In Carij, there is a large marble banquet hall which I have only seen pictures of on the shelds. The banquet if held when teenagers become adults at the age of 18. Only then are they granted the one thing society doesn't chose. Their fate. When a child is born, they have a small iron necklace with half a heart. This necklace is immediately taken away for if it is lost, there is no hope. This necklace is cold or hot, depending on how close it is to the child's soul mate. The child then, at the age of 18, is given the necklace to go fine their soul mate and start a life together. This is where I am headed. To my banquet. To my destiny. As I stare at the window out into the night sky, my eyes focus on my reflection in the glass. I adjust my red hair and smooth it down. It seems to fall in place perfectly. Everything tonight will be perfect. I hope this tram ride lasts forever, because tomorrow I know I will have to return to the drab look of my plain clothes. All females in Clarist wear a drab, light green shirt with a brown skirt, a yellow belt, and tan flats. Tonight is one of the only nights a girl will get to wear anything other then her plain, work, or sleep clothes. And you get a choice of what gown to wear. I chose the deep blue because I felt it brought out my hazel eyes. My mother looks up at me.
"Kyra. The sight of you in that dress in breath taking. Your match is a lucky man."
Before I can respond, the tram dings once again, this time telling us the doors are open. I step out into the cool August night, taking a deep breath. I look around me at the gorgeous scenery, that one could only find in Carij. Then I see the banquet hall.
