I take three steps forward and start to zone out and listen to only the rhythm of my heels clicking on the sidewalk. I know I should be focused on the scenery, but that would only make me more worried. I feel my mothers gaze land on my hair, that I know is in my face. I should have done an up-do. Instead, my lengthy, red hair cascades down into my eyes. I listen to the clicking still as thoughts race around my head.
Nothing can go wrong
I think. Butterflies fill my stomach as we reach the large marble steps. My mother steps up one stair and offers me her hand. I take it, not wanting to seem out of the ordinary, but I know I already am. Red hair is so, so rare in Clarist, especially Carij. As we reach the big door way, shelds are hovering, calling for the finger prints of my mother and I. This was it. I inhale deeply. Just then a little girl tugs at her older sister's arm. The girl is wearing a stunning red evening dress with a princess cut. Her beautiful, shiny blonde hair is in a gorgeous up-do with jewels along her neck. It's Asia.
"Asia!"
I call as I walk briskly toward her. My mother follows behind me, already plotting how she will tell me, for the seven-millionth time how not to draw attention to my self in public. Asia looks up from scanning her finger.
"Kyra! Oh wow! You look amazing in that dress!" She says
"Same to you" I reply "I didn't know we had our banquets on the same day."
"Me either. Oh! Do you have a mirror? I'm worried about my hair."
Her hair hover around her up-do as she debates wether to poke and risk making it worse, or leave it be.
"Asia you look fine. Better then fine. Splendid." Her mother says as she approaches my mother to give her a quick embrace.
"Sorry I was late. Work."
She quickly scans her finger and we enter the hall together. Asia's little sister walks into the hall and drags her mother away to go look at a painting.
"Stunning." I say
I can't fathom how anyone could not just absolutely adore everything about this beautiful sight. The chandeliers are delicate crystal, I can tell just by looking at them.
As we enter the main room I see the display cases full of dark, wooden boxes. One of which holds my destiny.
We head to the table with a big "S" sign above it. This is for the first letter of my last name, Sentran. Asia departs to go sit at the "M" table. The lights dim and the first course is served.
