Riley's POV

"Hi, guys!" I shouted as I threw myself on the couch.

I heard steps from the kitchen and in a second Toby's head peeked from the doorway. "Oh, it's you", he said with a fake-disappointed voice and left.

I sighed. He was mad at me. I jumped up from the couch and ran after him. "I'm sorry."

Toby glared at me and continued making his sandwich. "Now you want to talk?"

"Yeah."

"Well", he faced me again, "did you ever think that I may not be willing to talk now?"

No. "Mm..."

"I'm here if you want to talk, and I know Connor is too, but it feels like you don't tell anything to us anymore."

That was not true. Okay, maybe lately I had not been as sharing as I could've been, but if I was very busy doing my own things, I didn't always have the time to stop and explain to them what was going on. It pissed me off that they didn't understand that. I took a deep breath, looking for words. I came up with nothing, so I sight and said "I'm sorry" again.

Toby frowned. "Are you?"

I was, but not in the way he thought. "Yes. Look, I really am sorry, and I hope I can make it up somehow."

Toby finished making his sandwich and put everything back to the fridge. Then he faced me with a stubborn look on his face. "I'm still pissed, but", he started to smile, "you can start with telling me what she's like."

I should've guessed. Toby's obvious grin brought a smile on my face. I shook my head. "What do you want to know?"

"Her name."

"Avery."

"Last name?"

I turned around to hide my face and grimaced. I really did know nothing about her. "I don't know."

"Wow, Riley", Toby said while walking past me and sitting on the couch with his sandwich, He took a bite and spoke with a mouth full of bread. "So you're basically best friends with her."

I forced the smile to stay on my face. "I haven't known her for a long time, but I can still like her."

"You don't know her."

"You're the one to talk. You haven't even met her."

"And that's why I'm suspicious and not all trusty like you."

I was getting angry. I spoke between my teeth. "You don't know her."

"Neither do you. Okay, I have not met her and she could be a total angel, but it seems like you already care her more than us." He pointed to the upstairs. "Connor is there making music, by himself, because you disappeared for over an hour."

I swallowed. He may have had a point. "What are you doing here, then? Shouldn't you be there helping him?"

"I'm eating", he said slowly, like I wasn't able to quite understand him.

I knew that if I didn't leave now, I would start shouting at him, and that wouldn't do any good. I threw my hands in the air. "I give up." I headed to the stairs, ready to take another shower and forget this conversation ever happened, when Toby grabbed my arm. I pulled my arm free but stopped to hear what he had to say.

"No, you don't."

"Huh?"

"You are not giving up. You're going there to help Connor and do what you should've been doing all day."

He was right, and I knew that. I loved making music with my brothers, but today I had nothing. I had no ideas, no inspiration to write anything. Despite that, I nodded. This time Toby didn't stop me, when I started to climb the stairs.
