She was supposed to meet him now. Great. She thought. She knew how horrible it was going to be. She entered the library with caution, hoping Max wouldn't already be there. Luckily, he wasn't. She took a seat at the small table in the corner. Took out her psychology books and started to read.
35 minutes had passed since Eleanor was supposed to meet him. She hoped she could just discuss a few things with him, then leave. She was about to pack all her books away when she heard the door creak open. Her head snapped up.
"Alright I'm here, what have you done?" Max said, without even apologising about the fact that he was 35 minutes late.
"You're late. I haven't done anything yet." Eleanor said, quickly putting her head down to avoid eye contact.
"Yeah well I don't care. I'm not doing the work, I only came to see what you've done. So why haven't you done anything, nerd?"
"I, uh, I was waiting for you." Eleanor stuttered.
"Look, just because you stupidly haven't done any work, I'll help." Max sat down in the chair next to Eleanor's and took her books from her shaky hands. "To start, I suggest we make a list or a mind map, whichever you prefer, and we write all the topics that we've done and write what we can have on each slide. How does that sound?" He asked, while staring into her brown eyes which were still focused on her books.
"Um, yeah, okay. Sounds good." She replied, flustered. Eleanor lifted her eyes slowly to look at Max.
"We can meet here again tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay." She said quietly, nodding her head.
Max nodded and stood up. Then he started walking towards the door, but he stopped. He turned around.
"I promise I won't be late!" He smirked and then winked at Eleanor. With that, he turned back around and walked out the door.
What just happened? Why was he being somewhat nice? Eleanor thought. She dismissed her thoughts quickly and grabbed her books, stuffing them in her bag. She walked towards the doors and headed home.
"Mum, I'm home!" Eleanor shouted as she walked through the door.
"I'm in the kitchen!" Her mum shouted back. As Eleanor approached the kitchen, she could hear her mum talking to someone: a man. Cautiously, she peered into the doorway of the kitchen to see who her mum was talking to.
"Hey Eleanor, how was school?" The man asked Eleanor when he spotted her.
"Dad?" Eleanor questioned, frowning. She looked over at her mum who was staring at the black and white patterned floor.
"Yeah, um, look Elle, your mother and I have decided to get back together. So, you may be seeing me a lot more now."
"What do you mean a lot more? I never saw you anyway. I haven't seen you since you left us 9 years ago!" She glared at her dad.
"I'm sorry kid, it was a mistake, I know and I'm so-"
"No! Don't even try to pretend that you feel guilty about what you did. You left when I was 8 and you didn't even care. So why do you think you have the right to come back into my life and pretend everything's okay?" Eleanor interrupted him. "Mum, what the hell?"
"Hey, don't be rude to your mother. I do feel guilty about leaving and I apologise. But please, is there any way you could forgive me? Your mother did, can you?"
"No fucking way." She answered angrily as she walked away to her room.
When Eleanor had reached her room, she slammed the door shut with as much force as physically possible. She reached into her bag and pulled out her phone. Searching through her contacts until she found the right one. Parker.
He came back.
