I knew instantly what it was. Water.
It wasn't the water you go swimming in at the lake, it was Rapids, and it was pick black.
I screamed internally and held my breath as I was pulled downwards.
I flailed my arms desperate for a breath. I gasped for air and tried my best to swim forwards.
I water pulled me apart, causing me to take a gulp of it.
I spat out all the water and was pulled down again.
I can't die now, not yet. With all my strength I swam forwards. Taking a gasp of air every few seconds.
There was a dim light at the end and I swam towards it, struggling with the water.
I was losing strength, my legs ached and I could barley breath.
I light was inches away and I grabbed the surface coughing and spitting out water.
My heart was pun ding out of my chest. I gasped for air and collapsed on the ground. My eyes were turning white, the world began to spin leaving lying on the ground helpless.
"Jamie, wake up."
Someone shook my lightly and I sat up, face to face with Mason.
I looked around me, we were in a thick junglish forest.
"I was not expecting that." I said leaning against a tree.
"I know, I have a feeling that's the last water we'll see for a while."
My clothes were soaking wet and freezing.
"I'll fill up those canteens. You can go look for a shelter or something."
I left my backpack near the tree and walked around. There were a lot of good climbing trees, maybe I could climb up one and sleep there like Katniss Everdeen in one of those super old movies.
Little bits of grass and young trees were scattered across the ground. I kicked the soil, it was pretty damp, the perfect soil for vegetation to grow.
Mason walked back and stood beside me, scanning his surroundings.
"My dad told me that the end of the test is north. So we should move north."
"How do you know which way is north?" I asked.
"There was a compass in my bag."
"Oh."
"We should keep moving then" I suggested.
Mason nodded and walked north. I grabbed my backpack and followed him.
