Hey guys! So this is the first chapter of my new book! Hope you enjoy and if you guys have any ideas for what should happen next or any "constructive criticism," let me know. 😊 Also, just letting you guys now, Taira is pronounced Tare-a and Miya is pronounced My-ya.

12 years in the past
The snow globe fell to the ground and shattered into a million pieces as I sat up in my bed, terrified.

"Taira, get up! We have to leave now!"

As I scrambled to my feet, a large boom shook my room and threw me to the floor. My vision was a little blurry as I stood up and then I fell back to the floor when another boom shook the house. I jumped up and ran to the door, grabbing Miya's hand along the way. Another loud boom and the house went dark. I could here Miya's breathing as we both stood still in the pitch-black hallway. The lights flickered as another boom shook the house.

"Miya, come on. Let's find mom and dad."

"Okay," Miya said with a shaky  breath.

I felt out the hallway with one hand as the other was holding Miya's. A small creak of the floorboards behind us and Miya stopped in her tracks.

"Miya! What are you doing?" I yelled, afraid that if we wait to get out, we wouldn't.

"I- I thought I heard somebody behind us."

"It was just the house collapsing. Now come on, we have to find mom and dad."

The floorboards above us began to creak and sawdust came crumbling down off the ceiling. The lights flickered on and then off.

"Taira, I'm scared." Although I couldn't see her, I could tell she had a terrified look in her eyes just by the way she talked. "What if we can't get out?"

"It's okay, Miya. I'll get us out of here. I promise." This was my own house but for some reason, I couldn't navigate my way through, but I was determined to find my way out.

In the distance of my house, I could hear voices.

"Mom! Dad!" I called.

"Taira! Is that you? Where's Miya?!" My mom called from the other side.

"I'm right here, mom! With Taira!"

The house shook and the floorboards above us came tumbling down. Miya screamed as she jumped out of the way.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah, I...I'm fine."

I felt the ground shake and shift underneath our feet as the lights flickered again. The house shook and the lights flickered as the ground rumbled.

I knew that we needed to get to out before our path was anymore blocked so I grabbed Miya's hand again and pulled her along with me as I tried to navigate the way out.

We stopped and listened as the ground began to crumble beneath us.

"Come on, Miya. We have to move quicker." I said, pulling Miya with me as I began to walk.

A loud boom shook the house, flickering the lights off. Miya and I stood still, waiting for the lights to come back on. They never did.

"Taira, I'm scared."

"I know. It's okay. I will find a way out of here and we will be safe. Nothing will happen to us."

It seems as soon as I said that, everything bad began to happen. The ground shook as the walls began to crumble. The ceiling came crashing down behind us along with the floor, like a sink hole, but worse.

"Miya, let's go! Now!" I yelled with terror.

I grabbed her arm and pulled her along with me as I ran, my legs carrying me across the floor.

The wall behind us came tumbling down, scraping Miya on the shoulder, barely missing her head.

"Miya!"

"I...I'm okay, just k...keep going." She said, her breath shaking with fear.

We ran, and ran until we finally found the door to the house. My parents were no where in sight and I didn't see them along the way but I knew they had to be out already.

"Where's mom and dad?" Miya asked, pulling my hand, indicating to stop.

"I don't know. They are probably already outside." I said as I began to run towards the door.

The light was growing brighter as the pathway behind us was getting shorter as the walls kept tumbling down. We stopped as the ground began to shake and the floor in front of us sunk.

"Oh my God!" Yelled Miya, stopping just before it fell.

"Come on, Miya. Jump!"

"What?!"

"Jump! It's the only way out!"

"No! I can't, it's too far!" Miya yelled as the walls behind us crumbled.

"Go, now!" I yelled and before she could protest, I jumped and pulled her with me, landing hard on the ground, just before loosing consciousness.

My vision came to and I blinked a few times as the sky became into my view.

I sat up but a pounding headache that formed forced me to cringe and lay back down before I could get a good look around. I laid, looking at the sky until my headache subsided.

As soon as I sat up, I realized Miya wasn't with me.

"Miya! Miya!" I screamed, assuming the worst. I frantically looked around, searching for Miya.

"Taira!" I heard a voice in the distance. Relieved, I sat up but I couldn't see past 6 feet for all the smoke from explosions and collapsed houses blocked my view.

"Miya!" I yelled again, as I stood up, but received no answer. "Miya! Miya!"

My voice echoed through the nothingness of a broken world. I was ready to yell again when I finally got an answer, but one I dreaded to hear. A scream of horror echoed through the clouds of gray.

"Taira! Help me! No please, no! Help me!"

"Miya! Miya!"

Miya screamed a terrible scream of horror and then her voice faded away. "Miya! Miya, no!" I yelled, all of the dreadful possibilities running through my head.

I stood in the middle of dust, fear in my eyes as Miya's screams faded in every direction.

Hey guys! So that was my first chapter! Yay! I hope you like it and if you didn't, well please tell me in the nicest way possible, thanks!
