After a couple of weeks in LA, I decided to try and find a job. I hadn't made any friends so I had a lot of free time. I guess people didn't want to talk to me, classes hadn't started but I lived in the accommodation based on campus so I lived in a corridor with other people. My room was basic but had all the essentials for example a kitchen and a bathroom. I didn't spend much time in my room as there was a coffee shop opposite where I would edit short films from random clips I found online.
I logged onto my computer and searched "editing jobs in LA" thousands of results showed up. I clicked the first link to find a job website where employers put advertisements on when they were looking to hire. Most of them were tiny projects, too far away from where I was living. On the 6th page I finally found one which sounded good. It read
' Editor Wanted: I'm starting a small web series but have been unable to find an editor. Hours will vary. Filming starts early September '
There was an e-mail address underneath, I wrote it down on a post-it and stuck it to my computer screen so I wouldn't forget. I put together a small file of my work from my previous university. I had to go food shopping so left my computer to go to Target. I didn't own a car because I wasn't earning money, so I couldn't afford one. However I had a bike that I had found in a small shop, it wasn't too expensive like most things in LA. I got to Target and did a small shop, only getting the essentials and left again. Once I returned back at my apartment, I decided to e-mail the employer starting the web series.
' Hello, I saw your advertisement online and I was interested in applying. I am currently a student at the University of Southern California, studying a course in Film production and Editing. I have included a small file that includes some of my work. Your sincerely, Isobel Stewart '
I knew I wouldn't get an instant reply as it was around half eight at night plus the employer would want to review my work. I decided that if I didn't hear anything for a week then I would look for another job, probably in a small shop somewhere. I have no TV in my university room, so I usually scroll through tumblr all night, hoping that one day I could look like those girls with the perfect body. Since being in LA, I eat healthier and it has made a small difference. I definitely have more energy but I'm still not at a weight I am happy at. 'I am gonna start exercising' I tell myself everyday but I never do. I need to find a way to motivate myself.
