Chapter 6

Harry didn't know the area at all, so I wasn't sure of where he was going to take me. The only time he had ever been to Texas was for concerts.

"I'm going to start packing food. You should probably come help because I don't know what kind of food you like," I told Harry.

"Okay, babe. I'll be right there after I use the restroom," he said.

I went into the kitchen and opened the door of the refrigerator. The only thing we could really bring to a picnic was sandwiches. I didn't mind eating them, but they definitely weren't my favorite thing in the world.

I opened the cabinet and pulled out a loaf of bread. I picked up a knife and cut four slices, two for me and two for Harry. I went back to the fridge and looked for the turkey.

"What the hell? We don't have any more turkey?" I angrily yelled. Harry walked in right as I was having my no turkey break down.

"Calm down, Luc. There's ham, just eat that," he said. I shook my head. The thought of eating ham lunch meat made me want to gag. I couldn't stand it.

"No, I'll just take a bunch of random snack foods and eat them. The only kind of sandwich I can eat is turkey," I informed him. He smirked in amusement at how picky I am.

He suddenly grabbed his keys and started to walk out the door, but stopped.

"I would go get pizza but I don't know my way around town," he said. I laughed and headed towards the front door.

"Come on, there's a Little Caesers five minutes away from my house. I'll go get it," I said. He smiled and followed me to the car.

Harry stepped out of the vehicle and came around to my side and opened the door for me. Immediately, a young girl noticed us and started screaming Harry's name.

"Shit, I didn't think of this," he mumbled. More girls came over to us and asked for pictures. Harry being the sweet boy he is didn't say no and took pictures with about twenty fans.

"Why don't you come get in the picture too?" he gestured for me to stand by him. I shook my head and stayed where I was standing next to the car.

"Why would I want some random girl in my picture with you? That completely ruins it. She's not even pretty," a girl said. Harry looked pissed.

"Excuse me? You don't talk about my girlfriend like that. Just for saying that, you don't get a picture with me unless she's in it too," he replied. She shook her head and tried to pose with him to take a picture. He moved out of the way.

"Harry, it's fine. Just take the freaking picture so we can get our pizza and go," I said. He opened his mouth but then closed it, not wanting to cause any more trouble. He took the picture but it was obvious he wasn't happy about it.

We stepped through the doors of the pizza place and ordered a large pepperoni pizza. They gave us our pizza and we left.

"So, how are we going to find a place to go without people seeing us?" I asked once we were alone again in the car. He thought for a minute.

"I don't know. Now I see why our security is so important. I always thought it was a bit extreme but it's really not," he laughed. I nodded.

Then I remembered a quiet spot that I used to go to whenever I was sad or just wanted to be alone.

"I know where we can go. I doubt there will be anyone there, especially fans," I told him. I started to drive towards the park where I spent so much time when I was younger.

We arrived and we got out of the car. I walked over to a picnic table and Harry followed me.

"You know, it isn't a real picnic if we're sitting at a table. We need to sit in the grass," Harry said.

"But I didn't bring a blanket to sit on," I replied. He shrugged his shoulders and sat down in the grass. The thought of sitting in long, itchy grass full of bugs didn't sound pleasant to me, but I sat down next to him.

I opened the pizza box and pulled out a slice of pizza. I picked off the pepperonis and ate them.

"What are you doing? I thought you liked pepperoni, otherwise we would have gotten cheese!" Harry asked.

"No, I like pepperonis but not on the pizza. I always get pepperoni and eat them separately," I explained. Harry gave me a weird look and laughed at my pizza eating habits.

Harry and I sat and watched the sun set while we ate.

"So, you seem to like this place a lot," Harry commented.

"Yeah, I used to come here a lot," I said. He looked at me as if he wanted to explain when and why I came here.

"It's kind of a long story..." I said.

"Well, I like long stories. I want to hear it. Every little part of it," he replied. I smiled. It felt good to know that someone genuinely cared about me.

"My lungs sucked when I was born, but my dad didn't care. He continued to smoke. I don't know why my mom didn't leave him, obviously it wasn't good for me. But no, she had to stay with the asshole. When I was fourteen I found out that I had lung cancer. My parents started fighting a lot because my mom knew it was Dad's fault. Everyone knew. He refused to admit it, so they fought all the time. I couldn't take it, so I came here whenever I heard them arguing. I would bring my little iPod shuffle and listen to sad music. I kinda went through a depression phase," I told Harry. He listened intently to every word I said and never took his eyes off of mine.

"Well, how are you now? I mean, depression. Are you okay?" he asked.

"Yeah, I finally realized that I would most likely die sometime in the near future anyway. My parents finally got divorced and I haven't seen my dad since the day he left," I said.

"I'm sorry. I really am. It hurts me to see a beautiful girl like you with such a sad story. I'm here for you, and you can tell me anything and everything," Harry said. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me onto the ground.

It was already dark outside at that point, and a few stars were visible. It would have been so much better if we weren't in the city, but it was good enough because I had Harry.

Eventually I drifted off to sleep on the grass in Harry's arms.
