Mae hid under her infamous snapback; the one she wore in her dreams, the one she wore to the wax museum, and the one she's going to wear on the little meet up with Luke.

Luke. Luke Hemmings.

It's really happening, she thought. For real this time. It's not going to be another dream that she's going to wake up from and cry over again. She pinched her side for probably the millionth time since Luke said that they should pinch themselves. It's really happening.

It felt like a dream. She thought back to her little alternate universe and her heart swelled. She couldn't believe it.

She adjusted her snapback, and took a deep breath before stepping into Nana's Book Nook.

She took in a deep breath, gladly being engulfed with the smell of books and the sound of a song that wasn't familiar to her. She would've bugged the clerk to change it to something from the twenty-first century, but for once, music was the least of her worries. The only thing on her mind was the boy with baby blue eyes and sandy blonde hair.

She took a seat on a worn leather couch, and thought about him again. She couldn't get him out of her head, but what was different? She fell head over heels and flat on her ass for a boy who didn't know she existed - wait. She took that back. He knew. He freaking knew. It wasn't just a dream anymore; this is real life. And in real life, things are, well, real.

Then, her insecurities and worries started to creep up on her. She wanted to leave those at home, and only focus on Luke. That obviously wasn't going to happen.

But in that moment, everything went away. Calmness washed over her, and the person to thank that for was the tall boy in front of her. No turning back now.

"Mae?" Luke breathed out, blue eyes meeting blue eyes. He dreamed about this moment, just like she did. She'd been the only thing stuck in his head for the past week, and, holy crap, the moment's really here. Her red hair is perfect and her icy blue eyes are so mesmerizing. "Mae."

"Luke." The red haired girl let out a breath she was holding in. "Pinch me. I need to know if this is real." Even though she knew it was real, she couldn't help but worry that it wasn't.

Luke chuckled, leaning in and leaving a quick peck on her pink lips. It was shorter than Luke wanted it to be, but the rush he got when their lips met made up for it. He's heard it all before in romance novels and movies, but he didn't believe it until now. It really did feel like fireworks going off inside of him. It felt like the Fourth of July decided to blow up all his insides, but it felt good.

For Mae, it felt like just in the alternate universe. Maybe even better. She burned scarlet when his frigid black lip ring touched her quivering lips. Everything went in slow motion, from him leaning in, to her savoring the moment, to him pulling away sooner than she pleased. The amount of joy and realization that Luke Hemmings had kissed her was unexplainable.

"That was better than a pinch." She murmured. Luke chuckled, taking a seat next to her on the couch and studied her features that he just couldn't get enough of. "Sorry to cut this short, but I believe you have something of mine." Mae's eyes searched Luke's, but she didn't know what she was looking for. Sadness? Excitement? "I've turned my house upside down trying to find it, you know."

"Right." Luke's heart dropped when she brought up the bracelet. That little arrow led him straight to Mae; he'd grown attached to the little trinket and he didn't want to see it go back to its rightful owner. It sounded selfish, but he really did like the charm.

He fished out the bracelet from his jean pocket and dangled it in front of Mae. "Here you go, babe." Babe. Color rose to her cheeks as she adjusted her snapback. All she did was nod and take her bracelet into her own hand.

Would it be socially acceptable to bring up her dream about him? Mae thought to herself. She decided against her thought of talking about her vivid dream.

"So, music. How about Twenty One Pilots?" Mae smiled at Luke, and her heart fluttered at the sight of Luke's eyes lighting up at the mention of music.

"You like Twenty One Pilots?"

"I love them!" She looked down at her bracelet and slipped it on, feeling complete and whole again. "Their music helped me through a lot. And there's also a certain Australian foursome that have managed to aid me in troubling times." Hm, and I wonder why that sounds so familiar, Mae thought. She smiled the tiniest bit, playing with the arrow on her bracelet.

"That Australian foursome must be full of idiots." Luke laughed, running his fingers through his blonde hair.

"Yeah." But those idiots make me happy. An awkward silence settled upon them, but to Luke, it wasn't really that awkward. It was comfortable. Somehow, Mae made the silence comfortable. He rubbed the back of his neck, not knowing what to say. Although, he didn't know if he wanted to say anything. The quiet music in the background, the small chats of the people around him, and the noise of pages turning made feel calm.

"Luke?"

"Yeah, Mae?" The red haired girl took a deep breath before speaking, taking in the strong scent of old books.

"I know that I barely know you. And that you barely know me." She's really saying this. "But I love you." She just had to say it.

She hadn't noticed before, but her small hand was now placed in Luke's big one. She was gripping his hand so hard out of fear that her knuckles were turning white. But what fear? When it came to Luke, she felt as if there should be no fear with him, only happiness and love. Perhaps it was fear of rejection or embarrassment. Either way, it was too late to take back her words.

It was like the rest of the world had slipped away right when Luke opened his mouth to reply. There was no side conversations by the people next to them, there was no sound of turning pages, there was no bell chime when the door opened. It was like a pause button was hit and everything stopped. Everything but Luke. Mae could hear her heart hammering in her chest, and she felt like she could run around the world.

His lips were moving, but no sound came out. It was like Mae was deaf, she couldn't hear a thing.

Even though she couldn't hear his deep voice speak the words he meant to say, she could perfectly make out the simple sentence that she's been dying to hear since she joined the fandom.
