Chapter 1: Deadly Hugs

"REI-CHAN~~~~!" A bright-eyed, boy shouted as he sprinted toward me, flailing his arms with a ear-to-ear smile spread across his face. He was panting by the time he made it up to me, but he jumped right back up and enveloped me in a deathly hug.
"N-nagisa let go this instant. This is hardly beautiful," I said to the innocent boy, none other than Nagisa Hazuki.
"But Rei-chan~~..."
"No."
"You're no fun," Nagisa huffed, looking away for a quick moment, before turning right back to me with that goofy grin he always wore.
"Rei-chan, can we go to the candy shop after school?" Nagisa looked at me with large, puppy dog eyes. I couldn't bear to decline, but I knew he would want everything there, and there was an important science test coming up and I couldn't fail it, I would never forgive myself.
"I beg your forgiveness, but we have a test next week, and I really do need to study," I responded.
"Awww, I was really hoping that we could go.. But ok." He responded, with a slightly upset face. I hated seeing him like this, but I knew that it was a bad idea to go with him and miss out on studying.
"Hey, we should probably get to class, come on," I began walking away, Nagisa following close behind.

A.N. Glob it's hard to write in Rei's POV... Please bear with me in that, I promise I will work on the quality in his POV.

.:Nagisa POV:.

It was time to go to swim practice, probably the best part of my day. I sprinted out of the classroom and dashed down the halls. This was a time where I got to be with my best friends and away from family drama at home. I quickly changed into my swimsuit and dove into the pool. I loved swimming, maybe not as much as Haru, but I loved it. I splashed water around, smiling. Then I realized, something was off... Haru is normally here by now! Where was he? My question was soon answered when a figure soared over my head, followed by two more. All my friends were here!
Joy filled my heart as my friends swam around me. They were what kept me so happy. When I was in junior high my life was just filled with homework, quizzes, and tests. I would go home to where my sister's would pick on me, and my parents would nag me to finish my homework or study. I grew up with a strict family, and I don't know how I survived it without these guys.
Rei was a new addition to out swim team. He used to be on the track team, but I convinced him to join the swim team, and now he swims butterfly. I'm glad he joined, he is epic! He may be a bit of a nerd, but whatever! He is amazing, and his butterfly is great! I'm just glad he learned how to swim. If he didn't learn how to, he wouldn't have been able to stay in the swim club, and then we may have never became friends.
I don't know what I would so without Rei. He always looks out for me, like the brother in never had, but in many ways he is unlike a brother. I know he gets stressed easily by all of the studying he does, and I know he gets anxious when big events are coming up, so I try my best to get his mind off of these things. I try to crack as many jokes as I possibly can, and I invite him to places all the time. Sometimes he laughs at my antics and agrees to go, but other times he doesn't even crack a smile. In all honesty I worry about him, but I don't know what else to do. I don't think he understands I'm trying my best to help him... And I'm sure he won't ever understand how much I care about him.
