*DAVID*
David drew in a slow, deep breath as he stepped out of the hotel room and onto the overlook of the second floor, leaning against the railing and letting his eyes wander over the town. It had grown a lot since he had last been here...of course, nearly four years was not a short amount of time to be gone. He sighed to himself, old memories of this place coming back to him in quick fire flashes in his brain. He had promised Elena he would keep in touch. That he would write or call or email or...something! And then he'd gotten home to a much more dire situation than he'd been led to believe existed and..life just happened. Isn't that what people said? To excuse what they knew was wrong?
Again, he sighed, adjusting the wide-brimmed "cowboy" hat that had become part of his wardrobe in the Midwest. It seemed so weird to be back east. The air was cool now...the cool of late fall slowly giving way to winter. Was there any point in even trying to track her down? Would she even still be here? He snorted, doubting it. He was an idiot, but he felt that he at least owed her an apology. He turned his hands out, looking at them. When he was last here, his hands had begun to lose the roughness that ranch work had given them...now, they were as rough and calloused as they'd ever been. But he was proud of those hands. As if that somehow solved his dilemma, he looked up again, a sudden determination in his hazel-green eyes.
He turned sharply, long trench coat flapping behind him as he walked determinedly down to the car he had rented at the airport. He knew where she used to live. If nothing else, that was a start. He stepped into the vehicle, cranking it up and driving through the town, old street maps dusting themselves off in his mind as he found his way to where she used to live when she was in high school. The odds of her still being there were slim, he knew, but there was always a chance. When he finally reached the house, he didn't even bother pulling in the drive, pulling over to the side of the street and hopping out of the car, walking across the small grassy expanse of the lawn to the door. He hesitated for a moment when he reached it, then steeled himself once more and pressed the doorbell before taking a step backwards away from the door.
*ELENA*
Elena was exhausted from running around the house trying to tame her three year old, Destiny. She was a hyper one especially when she was at grandmas for the day and hadn't had a nap and grandma spoiled her with chocolate chip cookies. But now Destiny was sitting on the couch laughing at Spongebob on the television screen. Time for her to get things cleaned up while Destiny was calm for the moment. She began straightening up the house. Including the evening dishes. Going around to check on Destiny every few minutes as she cleaned. What would only take a half hour to do dragged onto two hours. Being a single parent was hard. Especially when she had to depend on her male best friend to watch Destiny as she worked.
Daniel always wanted more from their friendship and wanted to raise Destiny as his own. But she couldn't allow that. She knew deep down who Destiny's father was and the only other person who knew was Daniel. Daniel would just be a friend to Elena because she had never gotten over David. He had left with promises that he had broken. That he would keep in touch and she hadn't heard from him since then. Rolling her eyes she knew she had to get over David he was never coming back. Hell, in her eyes he only had one thing to come back to. And he didn't even know about her. Smiling she goes into the living room after cleaning dusting off her clothes. A white top that buttoned down to her jeans. A few buttons undone, revealing a teasing glimpse of her cleavage.
And tight jeans that showed off her wide hips. She had flip flops on her feet and make up barely highlighted her beautiful face. She didn't have to impress a guy anymore. There wasn't a guy she wanted to impress. As the door bell went off her eyebrows drew together in confusion. As Destiny clapped her hands yelling out Daniels name. Elena gave a small smile. "I don't think Daniel is coming today maybe he is surprising us.." She said as she opened the door. Her eyes widening as she looked into David's eyes. "David..." She said. Her voice soft but stunned. Destiny running up to her legs and looking up at her father.
