Chapter 3

Annie was so bored, she had been left in this dingy little room with some guy watching over her. He kept looking at her oddly, like he wanted to eat her. That was probably true, he was a vampire after all. The man called Klaus had gone out with Stefan, he kept calling him his ‘ripper’ which kind of freaked Annie out a little bit.

It was her birthday today. She was finally eighteen years old, and this was how she was celebrating it. Stuck here.

The door suddenly opened letting a thin stream of light into the room. The guy that was watching Annie shied away into the shadows of the room. Annie would have taken this opportunity to escape but was kept by two reasons. One there was someone standing in the doorframe and two, she physically couldn’t go out. It was if she was barred into the room by an invisible barrier. Stupid vampires and their powers.

“You may go now. I’m taking over the watch,” said the guy in the doorway. He moved slightly revealing Stefan. Annie didn’t know why, but she felt comfortable around him. He wouldn’t hurt her, and he was also extremely gorgeous.

“I can’t go out there! I haven’t got a ring like yours,” the guy protested.

“I don’t care. Just go,” Stefan said, venom dripping from his voice. “Before I FORCE YOU!”

“But I’ll burn!”

“GET OUT,” snarled Stefan. The tone of his voice was actually surprising. So much different to when he talked to Annie. The guy looked alarmed for a second then before Annie could blink he was gone out the door.

However she did hear the moans and cries of pain coming from outside.

“What’s happening to him?”

“He’s burning from the sun, he’ll survive if he’s fast enough to get to shelter,” said Stefan in an emotionless voice. “If not then I guess it’s tough luck.”

“You’re a monster,” Annie spat at him.

Stefan looked up, “I know,” and then he sat down the chair the other guy was previously occupying. He sat in silence for a while, his elbows resting on the arms of the chair. Annie just stood and watched him curiously. One minute he was so nice, and next he was a monster.

Maybe it was just around her that he was nice. After all, he thought she was someone else. Who was this Elena anyway, perhaps his lover? Girlfriend? Donor?

“Who’s Elena?” she wondered. Stefan glanced at Annie, his green eyes piercing hers. But then he swiftly looked away out of the window.

“A friend. Can you do something Annie?” he lowered his voice to even a whisper. “I have a plan to get you out of here, but I need your co-operation.”

“Why are we whispering? No one’s here.”

“Vampire’s have...somewhat sophisticated hearing. Klaus is a hybrid, his hearing is probably better than even mine. Even though he is far away hunting, there is still a chance,” he murmured staring at her. “You look so much like her.”

“Please tell me who she is.” Annie whispered.

“You’ll find out soon enough, but now you must come with me,” He opened the door, peering outside for a minute to check if anyone was around before gesturing me out. “You should be able to leave. I slipped vervain in your drink last night so that Klaus’ compulsion would not work,” he murmured.

Annie cautiously stepped a foot outside. She wasn’t thrown backwards into the room or anything so she assumed that whatever ‘vervain’ was had helped. “Where are we going?”

“Somewhere my brother will find you.”

“You’re not much of a talker are you?” Annie asked as she slipped into the black Mercedes that was parked up on the curb.

Stefan looked at her, slipping into the driving seat of the car.

“So even if you’re a vampire, you still like flashy cars?”

“We can travel many different ways, we do prefer to run but that is impossible with a human companion. It would take hours to get there with you.”

“Couldn’t I just hop on your back or something. Like Twilight, she’s on his back and he’s zipping through the trees.”

“That book is fiction. Vampires don’t sparkle.” He stuck his hand in the light shining through the window, “does that look sparkly to you?”

“Well I thought vampires were fiction in the first place,” Annie said sitting back in her seat and watching the trees go by.

They arrived at a house, about an hour away in the car. It was pretty desolate. No other houses in sight, and it was eerily quiet. Annie took a couple of steps up the porch before the smell hit her. Blood, the metallic, stench wafted through the air. Annie didn’t need to be a vampire to tell that a lot of blood had been spilled.

“I need you to stay in the house until my brother comes to find you. He won’t know that you’re here so he may be a bit angry.”

She shook her head, “ I can’t go in there, it stinks! Who’s house is it anyway?”

“There is no one any longer living in the house,” Stefan said patiently, he could smell the blood as well. It was not fresh, well he should know he had killed the two girls inside last night. “Don’t panic, it’s just blood.”

“Says the vampire!” Annie shrieked hysterically.

Maybe I shouldn’t have left the two girls bodies in there, Stefan thought. He couldn’t go back in the house. If he did he might go ripper mode again and he couldn’t hurt Annie. She looked so much like Elena.

“Please just go in there and wait for him. He’ll be along shortly and I can’t be here. Look Klaus will kill you when the time comes, so you have to go now. Actually, you could stay out here, but it might be dangerous-”

His voice cut off as he pulled her close to him, encompassing her in his arms. She stiffened, was he going to bite her neck or something.

But he just pulled her into a hug, “I hope you survive. If you do, tell her I love her,” he whispered.

She was about to ask who, but next minute she was left standing on her own. No sign of Stefan anywhere. Stupid, infuriating vampire. So say she actually waited for this guy to turn up. How was she supposed to know who his brother was? Wait was his brother a vampire too?

Crap.

She wondered if she could just hang around outside for a bit. She really did not want to go in the house. She had a feeling that blood wasn’t the only thing that she would find. So she sat down on the porch, trying not to think about the stench coming from the house. After about five minutes of waiting she fell asleep.

Bit of a rubbish chapter, but I'm finding it really hard to write this story. Normally I write from 1st person so I always get confused when writing.

Now that Vampire Diaries started again, it kind of inspired me to write, so I decided to upload

But I'm trying to finish I think I'm in Love with A Malfoy before the Watty Awards deadline so much of my time will be taken up with that. (and schoollwork)

Anyway, I hope you all like it...again I'm sorry for the shortness and the wait and the general uneventfullness of it.

Till next time
