Chapter 4

Another day at school. I had a feeling that this day would be more exciting. On the way out the door Father called, "Comm? Don't forget your rock!"

"Thanks! I called back. If they weren't going to talk about last night, I wasn't going to either.

I grabbed my rock and left. On the way to school, Set, Joey, Dec, and Johnny started to follow me. Seems as though they were waiting for me.

"No hard feelings he, Comm?" asked Joey.

"Of course there is." I answered.

"Tell anyone and-" I interrupted Set.

"I know, I know." I ran ahead. I hope they don't find out I told the prince.

When I got to school, I put my stuff into my locker and headed to Mr. Harv's class. (Did I tell you that I have him all day? My whole class does. You have one teacher that teaches you all subjects. Except for art, music, gym, those kinds of classes. The schools doesn't have enough money to hire enough teachers for each grade and class.) Mr. Harv nodded at me when I came in.

"Comm! That looks exactly like a Maoar egg! Except that it's black. You can put it in your holder." he told me.

"It's a rock. I'll keep it with me if that's okay." I didn't want Set to 'accidentally' knock it down and break it.

"That's fine." he went back to whatever he was doing.

I walked over to my desk and sat down. I put the rock on my desk and started rubbing it. Doing that calmed me down. I don't really like going in front of everyone, so I have butterflies. I hope it goes well.

After a while, everyone was there. A lot of them have their items wrapped up, while some of the others have a cloth over theirs. Most of them also put their items on their desk. Then Set, Joey, Dec, and Johnny came in. They were carrying nothing that I could see. Then Mr. Harv called everyone's attention.

"Class, I know you can't wait to show your items, so we're having History first." A lot of us were happy, including me. Others were not so happy. (Not mentioning names, though you could probably guess who.)

"The first person to go is....... Dec! Come on up here and tell us about your object." Mr. Harv said. Dec walked to the front of the room.

"My object is a collar. My mom knew an old person who used to own a Maoar. Here's the collar." Dec held up an old piece of leather that was frayed at the edges. It was discolored and you could tell that it used to be green, but it was gray-black now.

"Very good Dec. Now, Maria, show us yours."

"My item is a claw." she went on to explain about it.

Julia had a plaster of a footprint, Aap had a scale, Avita had a tooth, Kate had an item that she insisted was a nail, Set 'said' he had found a scratching post, and Joey had a carrot.

"Why do you have a carrot?" Mr. Harv asked.

"My mom said that her grandfather's Maoar loved carrots. So I brought a carrot in." Joey explained.

"That qualifies. Johnny, your turn." Mr. Harv said. Johnny walked slowly toward the front. He turned around and uncovered his item. Right away, I could tell that it was a spike of a Maoar. Even though I've never seen one before.

"This is the spike of a Maoar. My dad had it. It's not a neck one, because I accidentally poked myself with it. I'm not dead. My dad said that he found it in an abandoned Maoar nest." Johnny said.
