Sugawara Koushi couldn't rememeber a happier time. He had good grades, a supportive family, he was on an amazing volleyball team with the best people in the world, and he was in love with his best friend. His life wasn't perfect, but he was content. He was happy. And he had his whole life in front of him.

Until he didn't.

The worst day of his life, and in essence the last, was a Tuesday. After school practice was just wrapping up. He and Daichi were putting balls away, Tanaka was mopping, Hinata and Kageyama were finishing practice, and the rest of the team had already left.

"One more, pleeeaaassse Kagayama!" Hinata yelled. "Fine. ONE more." The stren-faced boy replyed. Hinata ran, jumped, and hit the ball just as it stopped in mid-air. "Whoo! Did you see that, Kageyama? Did you?" "Yes, I saw. I set it, dumbass" Kageyama said. "Now, pick up that last ball and get changed, it's getting late."

He was right. It WAS getting late. Sugawara turned around and noticed that Tanaka had already left. "Well, that's everyone, I guess." Daichi announced. "Time to lock up."

He locked the door just after Hinata and Kageyama left. Sugawara suspected there was something going on between them, it was just something about how they acted around each other. They were so, in synch. But he didn't say anything when he noticed them holding hands after practice, or the little loving glances Kageyama stole at Hinata when he wasn't looking. After all, he and Daichi did the same things, although maybe not so obviously. He watched the two walk away before placing a quick kiss on his boyfriends cheek. Daichi blushed slightly, but kissed him on the mouth just the same. He tasted sweet and warm, like home.

"See you tommorrow, Daichi" Sugawara said. "Be careful," Daichi warned him. "It's quite dark out, and you have a lot farther to go than me" "I'll be fine." He assured him. "It's really not all that far." "Okay. See you tommorrow, Suga"

They parted ways, both hearts glowing with warmth. Suagwara hummed as he walked, happy and in love. He made it almost all the way home, and darkness had fallen completely. He would have been blind but for the streetlights. He was just about to cross the street, one of the busiest in town, when his phone dinged. He stopped at the corner and pulled it out. It was a message from his mother, asking whem he would be home. He qickly answered, tellng her it wouldn't be long, and put his phone away.

He had just started to cross the crosswalk when he heard it. A car, going far to fast for this time of night, was close. Too close. It hit him hard, didn't even stop. His head hit the pavement, and he skid several feet before stopping. The last thing he saw was the white lines of the crosswalk. They seemed to speed by faster than the car had. 'Safe' they were supposed to mean. 'You can walk here'. He wondered if he would be able to walk again. Then he passed out.
