799 A.D - England
The six-year-old Nadia waited outside her home hearing the screams of her mother finally die down. The mid-wife came outside and put a hand on the blonde haired blue-eyed beauty's shoulder. Even at a young age everyone could tell that when she was older she would be very beautiful and desired by many.
"You may go inside now." The Mid-wife told the small girl.
Nadia clumsily sat up abruptly and turned to walk into the house with only a passive nod to the older woman.
The woman - Sophia who had been the one to deliver Nadia into the world six years ago left the small home as quickly as she could, It unnerved her how calm and manipulative the child was. Nadia could get the towns-folk to give her things she needed for no cost when she wanted and was walking away from them with a loaf of bread before they even realized what had happened, some said it was a sign of her being a witch but no one wanted to harm the sweet but quite girl.
Nadia walked inside the home that she shared with her Anglo-Saxon mother and her sometimes around father William who was a Frankish soldier. The last time he had been to the small village visiting her and her mother was eight and a half months ago. They had not received any news of him and Nadia liked to believe that he was dead. He was abusive to Nadia and her mother and she was glad he was not here to abuse her new brother or sister.
Nadia walked towards the bedroom she shared with her mother Mary. The floor boards creaking underneath her small form along the way, she stopped at the slightly open doorway and listened to her mother's voice cooing to her new sibling. Nadia felt a small twinge of jealousy directed at her new sibling and getting the attention that her mother only reserved for her was now being shared. Then she remembered that her new sibling was just a baby and the jealousy disappeared.
Nadia took a deep breath and pushed the door open and walked into the room. Her mother looked up and smiled at her in which Nadia returned the smile. Mary gestured with her head for Nadia to come around the bed. Nadia quickly followed her mother's directions scurrying bare-footed to her mother's side. She slowed down a few feet away and slowly walked forwards to look upon her sibling. What surprised her most was that she had not gained one sibling but two. Her smile grew wider and then she looked up at her mother quickly before glancing back down.
"Say hello to your brother and sister Nadia." Mary said to her daughter while smiling.
"Hello." Nadia said soothingly speaking for the very first time since her mother had gone into labor. "What are their names?" Nadia asked looking away from her siblings and to her mother.
"I would like your opinion on the names first." Her mother replied.
Nadia nodded eagerly to her mother to continue while looking at her siblings faces.
"I have a few choices, how about Ethan for the boy and Olivia for the girl?" Her mother asked.
Nadia looked down at her new brother and sister and her face screwed up in distaste. Her brother and sister most defiantly did not look like and Ethan or Olivia and her face clearly showed her feelings, still she voiced her opinion to her mother. "No, those won't do. What are the other choices?"
"How about Joseph and Emily?" Her mother asked.
Nadia didn't even look down at her siblings before answering. "Those names won't do either mother." There was nothing wrong with the names her mother suggested they just didn't suit her newborn siblings.
"We'll, I have another idea. How about Jane and Alec?" Mary asked her young daughter.
Nadia looked down at her siblings once again; she reached up and gently ran the back of her knuckles against the soft skin of her brother's cheek and then doing the same to her sister. "Perfect. Jane and Alec..." She whispered looking upon her siblings and all ill feelings she had towards them before simply disappeared. "My name is Nadia and I will always care and protect you until I die and then even in the afterlife."
Mary smiled at her children and could hear the sincerity in Nadia's words, she loved her children much and felt happiness in knowing they would always have each other even when she was gone. Mary had not married the father of her children, William and had no love for the man as he abused her and Nadia when he was around but she silently thanked him for giving her these wonderful children; but hoped she would never see him again.
