Promise Broken

Tobins POV

I'm surprised to say that Alex has kept her promise so far. Even if she's really busy or at a practice she'll call me at 8 every night.

I really thought that this could work. We played each other in an opener and spent the weekend together then. I really liked having her around. I didn't know how long this was gonna work but I'll savor every second of it.

Today though was different. I just saw her yesterday and she promised to FaceTime me the next day at three since she had the day off then. But I waited an hour after three and she never FaceTimed me. It pissed me off. I even texted her asking if she was free to chat with. No such luck. She didn't call over the next week and I was starting to get worried. I knew this was going to happen sometime but I guess I wasn't prepared enough.

Finally, two weeks later she called.

"Hey Tobin." She says when I pick up. She sounded tired and a little bored.

"What the fuck Alex?! It's been two weeks! Two weeks! You broke your promise." I whisper the last part.

"I'm sorry Tobin. I really am. Look. Here's the thing. You were right. I can't do this anymore. I think we need to end it." Her words cut me deep.

"But you said-" I start.

"I know what I said Tobin. I'm sorry. I love you." She says then ends the call. Fml. Someone knocks on the door. Shit. It's Meghan. I offered to let her live with me at my place for the season. I put on my happy face and go to the door.

"Her Meghan! Come in!" I say and step aside to let her in. She walks past me.

"Thanks again Tobin." She says. I wave it off.

"It's no problem. Really. I was getting lonely. Luna is as lazy as ever." She laughs.

"I think she gets it from you. But you Alex. She still calling you?" My face losses it's happiness. "I'll take that as a no." She grabs my arm and pulls me to the couch."

"She didn't call for two weeks. Then she called right before you came and ended it. It was for the best though. I'm gonna move on and hopefully find someone else just as good as Alex."

"I'm sure you will. With your looks I'm surprised they aren't lining up at the door." I look up at her. She goes red.

"My looks. You think I look good?" I ask. She bites her lip.

"Don't kill me." She mumbles.

"Why would I-" she leans forward and kisses me. I kiss back. But when she asks for entrance with her tongue I lean back.

"Meghan." I say. She leans back and looks away.

"Sorry. I've liked you for awhile now." I place my fingers under her chin and turn her head back to me.

"It's okay. I'm willing to give you a shot." She smiles and I smile back.

Ali's pov

Life was hard without Ashlyn. I always made her meals cause she can't cook and now I'm sure Alex is making her meals like she did for Tobin cause she couldn't cook either. But I had no time to think about her with our big game tomorrow. We were playing Orlando pride and I was both excited and nervous. It's been a month since I last saw Ashlyn and three since we last talked. She stopped answering my texts and calls. So I call Kyle.

"Kyle." I whine.

"What's wrong Ali?" He asks concerned.

"Ashlyn hasn't replied to any of my calls or texts in three weeks. Will you call her?"

"Of course. And if she replies I'm gonna go over to Florida myself and whoop her ass!" He shouts. I smile.

"Thanks Kyle. But you could come here cause we're playing them this week."

"Okay. Well I'm gonna go call her. I'll call you back soon." We hang up. I could always count on my brother to help me.

Ashlyn's pov

I plop onto the couch after a long day at training. Alex laughs.

"What?" I say. She laughs and shakes her then walks to the kitchen. I chuckle and shake my head. Then my phone rings. I pull it out and see that it's Kyle. I answer.

"WHAT THE FUCK ASHLYN! YOU ANSWER MY CALLS BUT NOT ALI'S?!" I pull the phone away from my ear and let him ramble.

"Who is that?" Alex asks from the kitchen.

"Kyle. He's mad at me. Nothing to worry about." I smile at her. She stands there a few seconds longer before going back in. Kyle stops and breathes hard.

"Done?" I ask.

"No but before I go start again tell me why you answer my calls but not Ali?" He asks calmly. I sigh.

"Because I can't talk to her without regretting my decision. She always makes me fell guilty about leaving and I really think that Florida was the best decision for me. And she can't help but mention something about what I'm missing in D.C. Or how much she misses me or something that makes me feel guilty. I miss her like crazy. I cried everyday when I got to Florida cause I thought she was going to hate me. I'm also so very busy. That answer it? If it does then goodbye." Kyle is silent so I hang up.

I sigh and rub my face. Alex comes in with two plates and hands one to me. We sit in silence for awhile. Once we finish we still hadn't talked and continue to sit in silence. But then Alex brakes the silence.

"So I couldn't help but over hear you're conversation with Kyle and can I make a few pointers?" I shrug.

"Sure. Whatever." I grumble.

"Okay. One. Kyle made several good points. One for being you answer his calls and everyone else's but Ali's. Two. You had maybe three good excuses and the others were lame. Why won't you answer her calls? Be honest." She says firmly. I sigh and sit up straight.

"We used to date." I almost expect her to be shocked but then again it didn't surprise me that she wasn't. "But we broke up two months ago because." I pause. "And she's still on my back and being overly protective of me. I wanted to escape that. I didn't trade here just for that reason but Ali is one of the main reasons I left DC. She still kinda hates me but then acts like she loves me at the same time." Alex rubs my back.

"Why did you brake up?" She asks. I knew she would ask that. The reason was because I loved someone else. And I knew Ali had some feelings toward a certain dark haired forward even if she didn't want to admit it or knew it yet. That person I loved? Alex Morgan.

"I don't know that I should tell you." I say slowly.

"Awe! Come on ash! I'm your kinda best friend! It can't be that bad." She says. She had no idea.

"Would it be bad if I said I loved you?" I blurt. She freezes.

"Noooo." She says slowly looking away. I couldn't take it anymore. I grab her face and kiss her. She kisses back for a second and it was the best second of my life but then she stops. I pull away.

"I'm sorry lex." I mumble before getting up quickly and going to my room and grabbing my longboard and going outside leaving Alex still on the couch frozen.
