Never give up

Safe?

I looked behind me and there stood a woman with a dyed blue ombre hair and she looked about 6 foot and she looked in her early 20's.

I pulled my hand away from her and tried to run away from her.

"Please don't run I won't hurt you" I heard her say 

The way that she said it sounded like she was pleading and wanted me to really stay so I stopped trying to run and stayed put

"Hi my name is Hailey may I know your name"

I looked at her and then hesitantly pointed to my throat to try and tell her that I couldn't speak

She looked at me confused and I could tell  by her expression that she didn't know what I was saying

I didn't know how to write much since father had taken me out of school early because he didn't want too many people getting suspicious about my scars and the new wounds I would get, but I think I may be able to write enough to get her to understand.

I looked around and found a small paper on a table, but I couldn't seem to find anything to write with so I went back to Hailey and made a motion of writing.

She got what I was trying to say so she got me a pen and on the paper I wrote the word "mute"

Then I handed the paper back to her and she looked at it.

"Oh so you can't speak of well do you know sign language?" she asked

I shook my head yes

"Well that's good because my brother knows it while I don't so I'll go get him so you can answer some questions I have for you would that be ok?"

I was a little unsure, but she seemed nice and I don't think she would hurt me so I nodded yes

"Common I'll show you to the living room so you can have a seat"

We walked into the living room. I saw two sets of sofas facing each other each one on the opposite wall. There was also a table in the middle with sets of candles on it. 

I sat down on the sofa to the right and waited for Hailey to come back with her brother. 

After a while she came back with a boy with blond hair with blue eyes and looked to be younger than the girl, but he was taller.

They both came in and sat across the couch from me

"Hey my name is Ethan" the boy said

I signed to him "Can you really understand sign language"

He signed "Yes I can understand sign language and I was wondering if you could tell us your name"

"My name is Dawn"

He turned to his sister and said "She said her name is Dawn 'then he turned to me' me and my sister want to ask you some questions but you don't have to answer if you don't feel comfortable enough is that ok"

I sat there just not knowing if I can really trust them.

"We just want to ask you some questions you don't have to answer if you don't want to" I heard hailey say to me in a voice that I have never heard been used when talking to me. 

Finally after 5 minutes of thinking it over I turned to look at them and signed to Ethan "ok"

The first question Ethan asked me was the one that I was afraid of most and made my breath hitch

"Who did this to you" Ethan said

I sat there not knowing if I should tell him or not but I get a feeling that I can trust him enough to tell him

"My daddy did" I signed to him

He look at me shocked for a while before he was knocked out of his trance by his sister asking "what did she say?"

Ethan looked back at her hesitantly wondering how she would react to the news "she said it was her dad"

Hailey's face pailed when she processed what he said

Then she turned to me and ran to me and wrapped me in a hug "Oh you poor thing no one's father should be doing that to their own child"

I just sat their shocked because father always said no acts of kindness should ever be wasted on me so I don't understand why she was hugging me

Hailey let me go after a while and picked me up and put me on her lap

"Ok now Dawn do you think you can answer a few more questions for me?" Ethan said while Hailey was holding me

I signed to Ethan "Ok"

Sorry for not updating in awhile I have just been lazy but I'll try updating more often.
