Chapter 2

I hear a sound that makes my head hurt. I try to run away from it but it's still there and still steady. It's like a repeating melody. Then I recognize it. I lift myself up fast. It's my alarm that rings and falls down onto the floor. I press it and get up. I take a shower and get out.  I wrap a towel around my hair that looks wavy. I get ready and go to the mirror. Every time I see my father in the mirror.

Brown eyes, brown hair and pearl skin. Yep, I look exactly like him and I hate it. Ever since he divorced my mom and moved to Atlanta, it's been down hill from there. My dad was rich and therefore my family was rich. His business was a heirloom. Then my parents split up. He took all his business away and left us only with my mom's job.

Max joined the army so he can help with the bills. My mom begged for him not to go and that she will get a job if she have to. My brother stayed for one year then he left. Max was determined to make things better.  My phone rings and brings me from my thoughts. "Hello", I say quietly.

I get up before my little sister so I have to keep my voice down. I quietly go down the steps. The sun is rising with vivid colors and a clear, blue sky. Olive is at the bar stool and she's texting rapidly. "Who let you in", I ask.

"Your Mom", she says. I get some cereal and pour some in my bowl.  "You ready for the pep rally", I say.  "Oh yeah pep rally, whoo", she says sarcastically. I chuckle. My mom comes from upstairs. "When you go over your grandparents' house, make sure your interactive with them", My mom says.

"Yeah I will". Ever since my mother's divorce she has been feeling guilt because my grandparents didn't like my dad, but young love overpowered that hatred. Now, she wants me to go conceal the hatred and not remind them that my mother was stubborn and stupid.

Olive and I get into her car which by the way is old. It's a jeep that her dad gave to her and it has problems like battery sometimes need to be charge and the back-left door can be only opened on the outside. I mean it has problems but it is my ride to school. It's better than riding in my mom's car which is so slow and always makes me arrive late. When we arrive at the parking lot, there is guy who is smoking by his car listening to classical music. He looks at me casually and I give him one glance then walk away.

I walk inside of the school with Olive. It's decorated with blue and white decorations. Talking about  school spirit. Our pep rallies are good. It's just the principal makes it worst with his annual raps. He declares he was the best rapper since Sir-mix-a lot.  Honestly, his raps are weak and he raps about sanitizing our school, doing your homework and getting an A is the way. Luckily the cheerleaders and dancers make up for his performance.

Olive hates everything from the raps, cheerleaders and football team. The only thing she likes about the whole thing is the pranks. I go to my locker and open it. Then I see the person I want to avoid all day. Chase McKnight who is good with grades and he's on the football team. He's always invited to parties. I dated him a year ago but then people started talking about us and talking about our relationship. Our relationship went from looking at his dashing brown eyes to not wanting to see him anymore.

I broke up with him. He was upset that I let gossip into our relationship but it wasn't just that. Now he's dating Aura Hales. I go to class because I don't want to think about it anymore. It was lunch time and I sat next to Olive outside. "Are you going to homecoming", she asks me. "Nope", I say in a monotone.

She gives a nod. "What", I ask. "Oh nothing, it's just that you went to homecoming last year and the year before that. Now you don't want to go this year ", she says.

I look at her with a serious expression. I sigh. "Look, it's not that I don't want go but it's just that...-she interrupts me. "It's Chase isn't".

"No, look I'm just not feeling it this year", I say. "Dude you had no boyfriend in the 9th grade why'd you go". I look at her again. Is she for real right now? "Look my mom made me go and that was it", I say. Olive looks at me.
