Michael smiles kindly. It's almost a smirk except he is too mild. I give him a fake smile because inside I'm crawling with anger and confusion. "Hey, hon' ", my mom catches my attention. "Hey, what is Mr. Michael doing here", I ask very innocently."Oh he's here to discuss your grandpa's health which isn't doing too good", she replies. "Oh, cool", I say. That isn't true because I'm not cool with it. In fact, I go upstairs to my room and keep the door halfway closed.
I try to listen in to their conversation but all I hear is giggling and chuckles. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much. He's too old for me anyways. My heart tightens hearing my self say this. I try to remain calm. I distract myself with Algebra homework because otherwise I might just go downstairs.
After a while, I'm sure he left and I look outside. Nope his car is still parked across the street. My mom calls my name. I rush downstairs but not like a maniac. My sister is sitting down playing with her toys.
Michael is smiling at me. "Hi, it's nice seeing you again", he says very softly. I look at him but the words couldn't come out. My mouth is dry and rough. "You, too", I say. I quickly go to the kitchen. "So you invite him for dinner", I ask randomly.
My mom looks at me curiously. "Yeah, why not". I look at her casually so she won't know what I'm aiming at. "Nothing, I'm just asking". She laughs suddenly. "What", I ask. "Oh it's just that you have a major crush on this guy", she says. I try to deny it but it's too late. "Wow, How could I have ever miss this", she chuckles. My cheeks turn red.
I go into the dining room. I see Michael touching our family pictures. He has a slender but built body. I can see his tan skin with broad muscles. His rough dark brown hair is messy but still sexy. "Is this you", he ask pointing to a picture of me when I was younger riding a bike. "Yeah", I answer. "Oh, you haven't changed a bit". I didn't know if this is a compliment or an insult but I say something anyway.
"Well people do say I have a baby face", I say. "Dinner's ready", my mom shouts. We both go to the table. "This food looks good, Anabelle", he compliments my mom. I stare at him and wish he could compliment me but I start to wonder that it's just a phase. I'm just paranoid.
"So how's school champ", he says. Champ Seriously, champ. I'm not a little kid. As I start to realize that he is just a fantasy, my love starts to diminish for him. After dinner, my mom greets him to the door and so did Lily but I didn't . I stay back and wash the dishes. After he leaves, I feel a sign of relief rest upon me. My mom comes in.
"Don't be down champ, he's just a guy", she chuckles. "It's not funny". "Of course it is, what did you think was going to happen", she says. "He's not prince charming". "I know that", I say. "Well then know this, there will be others", she says and gives me a wink. She walks back to the living room and goes up the stairs.
She's right, I'm being foolish to think he has interest in me. I walk up to my room and look at the weird book once again. I look through and see stories or passages but they were too blurry or teared. I reach one page that has noticeable words but still blurred writing . I try to read it.
"Every demon is the same under the eyes of wickedness and treachery. Let nothing stand between them and thy creator. They are endowed ability to certain rights. By the protector of this book who gives it words and commands. You are commanded by the book of silence and stand by it's meanings".
After I read it, I put the book under my bed. Few minutes later, I text Olive and listen to music videos. Then I get to sleep. It starts to rain and I like it because I like the sound of crisp raindrops. I open the window slightly and go to bed.
The next day I'm getting my books from my locker, Olive runs towards me with an energetic expression. "You look very happy", I say. She puts her hands on my shoulders shaking me. "What are your doing", I ask. "Tell me your coming tonight", she says directly. I give her a confused look. "It's bonfire night", she says. Of course bonfire night , the night before home coming dance. It's night were people prank on each other mostly rivals. Last time I came, I got pranked on several times by some people I didn't even know.
