"My dear, Natasha," her smile grew as she spoke my name. Her silver eyes bore into my crystal blue ones. "Because of your stunt with the boy, you will be assisting me with tasks for the rest of your stay here."
"Huh?!"
"For three hours after the last bell of the day." I bowed my head in defeat instead of fighting with her, and nodded. A shimmer passed through her eyes at my respectful answer. "You will begin now, by caring my umbrella." She handed it over, and I quickly took it.
I could not believe my luck. School hadn't even started and I was already in trouble. The stupid boy from earlier was grinning from ear to ear as I walked away holding two umbrellas. We strolled through the main gate at her pace, which wasn't quite slow but wasn't fast either. She surprised me when she tried to strike up a conversation.
"You said you were from the Heartling family, Natasha?" she asked with her back still towards me.
"Yes, ma'am," I replied quietly.
"Please, speak up, child. I am an old woman."
"Yes, ma'am," I spoke a bit louder.
"I could see it in your eyes. You have the Hearting eyes, child." I didn't really care for her calling me a child. I mean I wasn't seven anymore. I had just turned fifteen the day of the accident. I flinched slightly at the memory of it.
I guess she saw that out of the corner of her eyes, because she gave me a look. "Is something wrong, dear?"
"I'm sorry, ma'am." I looked down at the ground. "It's noth-"
"Do not lie to me. I can sense it in your voice." She stopped walking and turned towards me.
"My father passed away recently. It's the reason I was sent here." She only nodded and returned walking towards the large building. I shook my head, pushing the memory away, and followed along. We entered the building without a word, and I closed the umbrellas quickly. She walked over to a set of doors, and I opened one for her.
I opened one of the double doors quickly for the headmistress, letting her walk in. I felt eyes staring, so I looked into the room. I saw quite a few people watching me. Some standing around and a few sitting at the long table in the middle of the room. Mrs. Eden turned towards me with a smile, and spoke, "You may sit on the bench out there, child. I shall not be long." I nodded, and closed the door before taking a seat.
Amelia Eden's POV
I watched the girl nod and close the door before I turned back to my decedents' confused stares. I smiled sharply at them as I walked to the head of the table. Catherine was the first to speak.
"What do you think you are doing, great-grandmother? Letting disgusting creatures into this school."
"You should know by now, dear Catherine. My policy allows any and all into this school." The others tried to protest, but my growl cut them all off. "My word is final." They all bowed their heads in respect. "Now if that is all, I will ask you to kindly leave the grounds." Most left quickly. Only four stayed. The four who decided to take classes here. Natalin, the youngest; Hunter, the second youngest; Daemon, the second oldest; and Matthew, the oldest.
"I have a question," Matthew spoke softly. I turned towards him, giving him a warning look. He took the look, but asked something different than what I thought. "Who was the girl at the door?"
I closed my old eyes and spoke, "That, my dear boy was a Heartling." They all looked at me all shocked.
Author's Note
Again, I'm sorry if that's not how you picture the characters, but that's how I pictured them. I hope you all enjoying the story.
