When everything started registering in my mind, I bowed my head, hiding my face in my hair. I had never played for so many people. I wanted to run, but they were blocking my only way out. Professor Christopher smiled brightly as he walked over to me. "You play beautifully. That's a very difficult piece to memorize, I'm very impressed." I felt my words stuck in my throat, so I only nodded. "Tell you what, I'm going to sign you up for the competition that's coming up soon. As long as that's all right with you, Headmistress?" My eyes widened in shock. I raised my head, and saw the old woman standing in the front smiling.
Wait?! Was she proud? "Perfectly," she replied. Anxiety started taking over my body. My fingers began to tap, my toes curled and my right eye twitched slightly. I stood abruptly, and ran through the crowd of people, making my escape. Just the thought of playing in front of a large crowd scared me. I shivered as I kept running. I had run out of the building, and already past all the other dorms. I was near the lake when I stopped running.
And only then did I realize, I didn't have my umbrella. The sun was shining brightly. I looked down at my skin, which was already slightly pink. My eyes went wide with worry, not knowing what to do. So I did the first thing to come into mind. I jumped into the water, and ran for the cover of the trees. I plopped down onto the soft grass that was well shaded.
"You're an idiot, Nat," I cursed myself. "A complete idiot." I sighed as I rolled over, only to be met with the face of a squirrel standing not even two feet away. It stared at me with its black little eyes.
"Forgetful child," it spoke. It took me a second to register into my mind, but once it did, I jumped off the ground and hit my head hard enough on a lower branch to knock me out cold.
"Wake up, foolish child," a voice nudged me. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. The grass below me was tinted blue. No trees stood over me. The sky was a strange verity of purples and blues. The stars flew past quickly. My eyes traveled back in front of me to see strangely dressed women. All of them were from different time eras.
"Who are you?" I whispered scared to know the answer.
"We are you, foolish child," they all responded in unison. A small girl of maybe seven or eight walked in front of me and knelt down making the pink dress she wore wrinkle underneath her. She tilted her head to the side.
"We are from your past lives, dumbass" she spoke softly.
