"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Jane yelled.
"Girl it'll be okay," Victoria said hugging her.
"No it's all my fault!" Jane said shoveing her away and falling to the floor crying.
Jane just heard on the news (she has journalism first period so the teacher always shows the news) about Jeff's house burning down and him being pronounced dead. They assumed there was domestic violence that started a fire and ended with Jeff killing his father (like he did) but dying in the fire.
"He might not really be dead, they can't find the body," Abby said.
"They found his lips dude," Victoria said.
"That doesn't mean he's dead," Abby said.
Jane couldn't stop crying. It was her fault Jeff was dead, if she hasn't ask him to stay out late and get him mad he wouldn't have gone home late and might've been able to avoid an argument.
"Jane calm down, just try to wash your face off your make up is ruined," Victoria said.
"THAT'S NOT THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE!" Jane cried.
"You were only dating him for a day," Victoria said.
Jane managed to stand up and slap Victoria, "I don't care if I didn't even know him, its MY fault he's dead, you can't just get over something like that."
"How is it your fault?" Abby said, handing Jane a wet paper towel to wash her face off with.
"Jeffs father was abusive, he said he'd get in trouble but I still asked him to stay out late with me..." Jane said crying into the paper towel.
"Oh my god," Abby cried, covering her mouth as she looked at her phone.
"What?" Victoria asked, still shocked from the slap.
"Andrew just texted me that we're missing more news," she said. "Amanda was murder last night, she was found dead in her house it was broken into."
"What the fuck is everyone dying?" Victoria said.
"Victoria!" Jane cried at her rude comment.
"Look Jane I'm sorry about Jeff okay? But damn, Amanda was our friend since middle school." Victoria frowned.
"I know..." Jane sighed.
"Honey just try to go home you can't possibly do work like this," Abby said. "I'll take you to the nurse, go back to class Victoria." She said leading Jane out of the bathroom.
They walked in silence to the nurse but Abby held Jane up so she didn't fall.
"You don't have a nurses pass," the nurse frowned at Abby.
"She needs to go home she can't be expected to work like this," Abby said.
"What's the problem?" The nurse asked Jane.
Jane started crying again just thinking about it. "It's my fault..." Was all she could say.
Abby leaned over the desk and whispered to the nurse.
"Oh my," the nurse said. "Let me call the principal in here..." She said dialing the number.
"No!" Jane cried out.
"Jane I can't begin to understand your pain, but the principal needs to know what's happened," she said.
"You can do it, just tell him the story then you can go home," Abby said.
A few minutes later Jane was pulled into the prinicals office, by herself.
The principal handed her the whole box of tissues, "Jane you need to explain what happened."
She looked back at two police men behind her. "Well... I knew Jeff's dad was abusive, he killed their mother...." Jane forced herself to say calmly.
"Why did they not call the police?" One police man asked.
"I don't know officer, we were only dating for two days..." Jane frowned.
"Continue," the principal said.
"We went on a date Wednesday then Thursday I followed him to work and waited for him to end his shift and I asked if we could hang out after," she gulped back tears, "he said no...that he'd get in trouble," she started crying again.
"Jane calm down, its okay you're not in any trouble," the police man said.
She nodded, "I asked again and he agreed to staying out for an hour, we went to the park and were talking... I mentioned his father and he got really mad..." Jane said, rubbing on the bruises on her wrists.
"Did he hurt you?" The other police officer asked.
"No!" Jane said immediately.
"Then can you tell us where you got those bruises?" He asked.
"We were just messing around, making out is all," she said.
"And he held you down? Did he force you into anything?" The first police officer asked.
"No we didn't have sex we were just making out and he got a little rough but I told him it hurt me and he stopped..." Jane said.
"So he did hold you down? And that on your neck its a bruise?" He asked.
"Yes but he didn't mean to hurt me, and no thats a normal hickey," she said.
"Jane, if he made you do anything or hurt you you need to tell the officers," the principal said.
"No I'm fine he didn't mean to hold me down so tightly," she said.
"What happened after you two made out?" The police officer asked.
"He said he had to go home so I took him home and that was it." She said.
"Did you happen to talk to Amanda last night?" The principal said.
"No I saw her in art class yesterday and that was it," she said.
"Were her and Jeff friends?"
"No I doubt they even knew each other..." Jane blew her nose in one tissue.
"Is that all you know?" The second police officer asked.
"I know Amanda works at this corner store on Macaw I think the streets called? But yea she has a night shift." Jane said.
"Thank you Jane," one police officer said.
The other one handed her a card, "call this number if you know anything else, and go home and rest you've been through so much."
"Yes sir..." Jane said as they left.
"I'm sorry for your loss Jane, take today and tomorrow off to collect yourself, I hope you feel better," the principal said walking Jane out of his office.
Jane then went to her car and drove home. And spend the rest of her day in bed.
