I awoke outside on the damp, green grass with Naveen standing over me. "Wha-" I start to squeak out.
"No, don't speak. You breathed in a lot of that smoke." He helped me sit up, holding my back with his arm. He's hand rest in the center of my back.
"What .....ha....happened?" 'Why was two simple words so hard?' I think.
"Mr. Lowe's desk caught on fire. No one knows how it happened. You were standing so close to the desk and you breathed in so much of that smoke, you just collapsed. The firefighters are coming and so is the ambulance. You need to get checked out."
"I'm fine." I coughed. "How did I get out here?"
"I pulled you out." 'He picked me up and lugged me outside.' My heart started to beat fast again. He started to talk, but all I could hear was the ringing in my ear. Naveen started to get blurry. "Hey! Stay with me!" He picked me up, holding me like a little baby and started walking fast toward the parking lot. My head was rested on his muscular, upper arm. I see only faint pictures and blurs of my surroundings. "Hey, why are you always passing out?" He said laying me down. "You're about as mysterious as Nessy, the Loch Ness monster." He grabbed both sides of my face and brushed the hair away from my eyes. I started to drift again. "Hey, Ms. Umm... Oh god. What's your name. Nessy, I'll call you Nessy. Nessy, stay with me. He picked me back up, holding me close again. The sounds of sirens started to mask all other sound. I look back and to my surprise, a car only yards away from where we were sitting is on fire. I start to think. 'Why is everything on fire today? I had this under control. Why am I catching everything on fire?'
