Chapter 7 - Dances and Sea Foam

Chapter 7

Dusk's POV

Three days later

The handmaidens helped me get ready for the engagement party, which took place in a few hours. Queen Valkyrie had picked out my dress, and I wasn't allowed to wear a tiara yet because I wasn't married nor queen/princess.

Instead, a band of little black flowers was tucked into my blue black hair, which was done up in a lovely chignon. I had grimaced slightly at the dress, but took comfort in the fact that I wouldn't have someone picking out my clothing for me for much longer.

The dress itself was a sleeveless spaghetti strap number, with a rose pink overlay and black underskirts. The skirt was rather large, floor length and bustling. I sighed as I put it on over my tights and high heels, putting a black silk drape around my shoulders and arms.

I was led out to where Ricky waited, looking dapper and refined in his black suit. He grinned when he saw me, holding out his arm. I took it, blushing.

"Although I don't quite like the color of your dress, you look positively lovely tonight, my dear." He said, and I sighed. "Hey, don't blame me, blame your mother. She picked it out."

"No harm meant. You would look gorgeous in a burlap sack." He said, and I laughed. "You are one smooth man, Richard."

We descended the steps together, a hush falling over the ball guests. Ricky dismissively waved his hand at them as I smiled, and they want back to their activity. Immediately, I noticed the lords and their ladies, all looking pristine.

I personally thought I paled in comparison to the beauty of the ladies, but Ricky didn't need to know that.

Arm in arm with Lord Joshua, Lady Ryan Ashley walked up to us, smiling. She wore a mermaid style silver and gray dress, the lace and chiffon working to accentuate her curves.

A delicate tiara made of little silver strands and tiny diamonds and pearls rested upon her sterling curls, which tumbled down to her waist. In a word, she was perfect.

"Congratulations on your engagement, you two!" Balz said, and Ryan Ashley nodded, her smile warm and inviting.

"Thank you! We will see you at the wedding and the coronation?" Ricky asked, and they nodded, and I grinned. "Glad to hear it. I hope you enjoy the party!" They walked off, and we were immediately greeted by Lord Devin and Lady Kylie.

Kylie wore a darker ensemble, her black lace dress covering from her neck to the floor, and an onyx and diamond tiara crowning her black hair. Devin looked flawless as usual, his porcelain skin shining. We made small talk, and then ran right into Lord Motionless and Lady Sabrina.

Sabrina was in a purple gown with black ruffles, and her orange hair was up in an elegant bun. A yellow gold and diamond tiara wrapped around it, accenting her cheekbones. Chris towered over us, looking like a Gothic Adonis in his black suit.

After we spoke with them, we were met by Lord Angelo and Lady Kelly.

Kelly wore an off white and gold dress with long sleeves and a pooling skirt that flowed down from a princess cut bodice that was laced with gold ribbon. On her softly curled blonde hair sat a tiara made out of little diamond sea stars and silver coral. Angelo looked dapper in his black tux, his hair slicked back and his face cleanly shaven for once.

They talked for a bit before we finally got to Lord Ryan and Lady Allie. Allie wore a burnished gold gown with white lace, the long bell sleeves trailing the bustling skirts. She wore a heart tiara, the little loops glittering as the diamonds in them sparkled. Ryan was wearing a black tux too, like all of the other lords.
