We finally made it to the Hospital, but Mark has no idea where we are. Oh god, poor Markimoo. On the way here, I used my phone to look up more symptoms of alcohol poisoning. We're lucky he's still alive. I am the worst person ever. I am the worst person ever. I silently chant over and over in my head.
As we walk in, supporting this confused and weak body, I see a doctor head our way. "Who is this? It must be urgent! I will bring him to my room immediately." He exclaims with a terrified look. "M-Ma.... you sign him in, I-I'll, um" A tear rolling down my face, "I'll f-follow the doctor..." Ma nodded and, without a word, she turned away and headed for the front desk.
So I followed the doctor into his room where he'll see what we can do for Mark. "Mind if I, uh, take off the hat, sir?" The 'unnamed' doctor asks. "I.... uh.... wait.. huh?" Mark questions, seemingly forgetting he was wearing my spare hat. So I step in. "Doctor... he, well, we think he has alcohol poisoning..." I say, holding back the tears. "Oh. Well, we must get this young fellow immediate support!" He says, now with a worried tone. "D-do you think.... he'll m-make it?" I ask, more distraught than ever. "We'll have to see. That's all we can do, I'm afraid." The Doctor says as he puts Mark on a bed and wheels him down to what I assume is the 'More Urgent Room' or whatever.
As I follow The Doctor and Markimoo, I turn and see Ma. Her eyes widen. "Sean! Why is Mark's hair pink?!?!?" She whispers to me. "What did you two get into last night?" I lift up my hat with the guiltiest look on my face. Her eyes go from wide and surprised to narrow and agitated. "Um, excuse us, Doc. We need to be somewhere. We will be right back." Ma says as she grabs my arm and brings me to the (yes, gender-neutral) restroom. "Sean William McLoughlin! How could you?!?!" "W-we were... d-drunk, Ma...." "Why did you get drunk?! You know the laws here in America! I know you were old enough back home, Sean, but here, it's different. You could get us arrested! And your hair? Don't even get me started on your hair. Is this permanent?" "I... I don't know... I'm sorry. Ma, I don't.... a-actually... know th-the law here i-in America.... about d-drinking....." "You have to be 21 here to drink! You're only 18!!! And I don't even know what to tell Mark's mother!!!" "Ma.... I'm sorry. I really am sorry. Me and my habits got the best of me. I really don't know why. I'm... so sorry." "Well, sorry just isn't enough right now, is it, Sean?" She says as she leaves me and heads back to the 'More Urgent Room' otherwise known as the ER (Emergency Room).
I've never seen her like this before. She almost never calls me Sean, mostly just Jack. Mark usually just calls me Jackapoo or Sean. No, Mark, stop thinking about him, stop, he's... he... h-he probably won't make it a-anyways.... No matter how hard I try to stop thinking about him, the more I feel the guilt.
