The laughter of another small child echoed through the woods as I walked along a path that laid between a parallel line of thick trees, and I had began to look back at my younger self. I was ten now, and I had just started my journey today. I had expected to be interrupted by a Pidgey flying over me or a Caterpie blocking my path, but luck had been on my side today, and I didn't have to take my mind off of what was really important to me. My first Pokemon. I had the choice of the three so called rare Pokemon that were called Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. I knew Charmander was a small lizard thing that breathed fire, and I liked it because it'd probably be cute and deadly. But then there was Squirtle, the one that seemed goofy with that big shell on its back. Then there was that unpopular one, Bulbasaur, a weed thing with that thing on it back, but it could shoot vines! Before I could finish my thoughts, a yellow blob caught my eye. I watched its tail flick about in the air as it passed by, and my voice in my head said, "What's that?" I began to run after it, letting my curiosity get the best of me. It had been fast for a little mouse thing, but it looked cute, so I wanted to get a better look to get one of my own. As I ran farther into the forest, I had to jump over small branches and dodge rocks that would make me fall flat on my face. But even though I was only human, I was able to keep up with Pokemon. My laughter had been muffled by my scarf as I cornered the Pokemon. I stopped and it turned to face me, and our eyes locked. I admired its bright yellow body with those stripes, its funny looking red cheeks and its pointy ears. But its eyes seemed to pierce me, since they were a bright blue like mine. I had felt an urge to step forward, and so I did exactly that. But I did it slowly so I didn't startle the creature, then lowered myself to the ground and reached my hand out. At the time, I wasn't focusing on how it could hurt me, but just to comfort it. The Pokemon leaned in and sniffed my hand, then rubbed against it gently. I couldn't help to smile, then patted it on the head. The little thing let out a soft cry, that I figured out to be, "Pika!" in its gentle voice. I reached both my arms out and it leaped onto my chest and I fell, but I held him. He smiled at me, and I gave him a smile in return. At that moment, I had answered my own question of "What's that?" and said out loud, "It's Pika. My buddy that will be with me forever."
