I hadn't talked to Melanie since Wednesday. I wanted to talk to her, but was afraid she'd try to hurt me again.
Mother walked into my room and gave me a letter. "It's for you." She said, and walked out. The letter was wrapped in a pink bow. I knew it was from Melanie without reading it, but I opened it anyway.
The note read:
Dear Johnny,
I'd like to invite you to my party tomorrow. That is all.
What a short note it was, but I wasn't going. I was too nervous about Melanie and Lilly, and Melanie trying to kill me. It wasn't even her birthday. It was decided that I was not going.
