A Mythical Affair

Part 15

*Link's POV- Time skip, 2 years later* I couldn't believe that time had passed so quickly.

Sophia was now 2 years old and she was beyond adorable and our little ray of sunshine.

One thing Rhett liked to do with Sophia was give her piggy back rides around the house.

Last week, she came into to our home office and asked Rhett "Daddy, will you play with me?"

Rhett looked at me and I smiled.

"Sure, Sophia!"Rhett said "What did you want to do?"

"Piggy back ride!" Sophia exclaimed

Rhett laughed.

"Okay baby." Rhett said as he knelt to Sophia's level to let her get on his back then, he turned to me and said "See you later!"

I laughed as Rhett left the room with Sophia and continued to work as I heard Sophia giggle.

I reflected on what happened over the past couple of years and smiled.

Rhett and I had been through quite a lot.

Now, it was really worth it.

Neither Rhett nor I would trade anything for Sophia.

She was so precious to us and has been since the day she was born.

Today, Rhett and I were planning a trip to North Carolina to visit our kids as well as Ben's grave.

And Sophia was excited to go.

"Come on, Daddy! Let's go!" Sophia said as she pulled my arm

"Okay, sweetheart." I laughed as I followed her as she ran to the garage to find Rhett getting the car ready

"Hey babe. Ready to go?" Rhett asked he put the bags into the car

"Yeah." I said as I opened the car door and helped Sophia into her car seat

"Daddy, let's play the license plate game." Sophia said to me

It was something she and I did together to pass the time on long car rides. Of course, whenever I rode my bike and took her along, she would be too preoccupied with how fast we were going to care about playing a game.

I couldn't resist. She made us melt with her smile.

"Okay." I said

*Rhett's POV* Unknown to Link, I had been planning something special.

It was our anniversary after all.

After that night at the party in High School so many years ago that lead to Ben's conception, it was clear that Link and I had feelings for each other. Of course after his death, we went our separate ways and dated (then later married) Jessie and Christy. But just because Link and I had a child together and he was now dead and we were no longer dating didn't mean we couldn't stay friends.
That worked out well...a little too well.

So well that Link and I ended up having an affair behind our wives' backs.

*flashback-2011* Link and I were in Utah to film an episode of "Commercial Kings".

But while we were at our hotel, I was in my room writing a script for the commercial when I heard a knock on my door.

I walked over to the door and opened it to find Link on the other side.

"Hey man!" I said as Link walked in

"Hey." Link replied

"Did you have an idea for the commercial?" I asked

Link shook his head.

"I wanted to come here to tell you something." He said

"You can tell me anything, Link." I said as I closed my notebook

Link sighed then looked at me with tears forming in his eyes.

"I can't do this anymore, Rhett!" He said

"What?" I asked very clueless

"THIS! Living this lie!...I miss you Rhett." Link said

I looked at him with a reassuring smile and rubbed my thumb over his tear soaked eyes.

"Oh Link," I whispered "I missed you too."

Link burst into tears and fell into my arms.

"I love you, Rhett! I don't care if people think it's weird that we're in love. I just want to be with you again." Link said

I looked at Link and smiled.

"I love you too, Link." I said as I wrapped my arms around Link and kissed him on the lips

*end flashback*

"DADDY!!" Sophia screamed as Link grabbed the steering wheel and I slammed on the brakes

The car stopped just before it could hit a guard rail.

"Are you okay?" I asked looking at Link

"Rhett, what were you thinking? You can't just stare off into space like that. Maybe you should let me drive." Link said

I sighed.

He's right.

"Okay. You can drive." I said as I got out of the car then went over to check on Sophia

"Are you okay Sophia?" I asked

"That was scary Daddy." Sophia said as she held her plush randler

"I know baby and I'm sorry." I said as I handed her the Sofia the first coloring book that fell off of the tray of her car seat then, picked up the crayons off of the floor

*Back to Link's POV* Later, we were back on the road and Rhett was sleeping in the passenger seat.

I looked in the backseat and saw Sophia quietly coloring.

Then, she looked out the window and said "5!"

"Oh! There's a 5 in the license plate?" I asked

"Yup!" Sophia replied

"I see a license plate with an E in it."I said as I looked at the truck in front of us

"Blue!" Sophia said

"Another clue, sweetie?" I asked

"Yes!" Sophia said

"Okay. Does the license plate have a number in it?" I asked

"They all do, silly!" Sophia said

"Of course...duh." I said as Sophia giggled

Soon, Rhett woke up and looked over at me.

"Are you playing the license plate game?" He asked

"Yes." I said as I smiled

"That's cute." Rhett said
