Katherine Fray sat at the coffee shop of Java Jones as she considered how her life had turned out.

She lived a pretty normal life with her mother and sister. Her life was filled with ordinary people, if you can consider her friend, Simon Lewis normal than yes it was normal.

As she and her sister, Clary grew up, Katherine couldn't help but notice the many differences between them. Clary looked a lot like their mother, Jocelyn Fray: the same red hair, same smile, the same green eyes, everything whereas Katherine had dark brown hair which flows down to her mid back in natural curls, dark brown eyes, a bright smile which shows her noticeable cheek bones.

Katherine asked her mother why they looked so different as she grew up and Jocelyn looked almost saddened by the question. "you're unique that's why sweetie, you don't have to look like me for me to see that you're my daughter" that's the answer she got bur she wasn't satisfied with it but left it alone after that.

"Katherine are you even listening to me?" Katherine was brought out of her thoughts by her sisters best friend, Simon. Katherine looked at him sheepishly and he sighed.

"sorry Simon, what were you saying?" Katherine asked politely. Katherine was always shy but when it came to someone being mean to her sister or her friend, people ran scared, Simon even admitted he was infact afraid of the girl.

"I was saying you should come out with us tonight, it'll be fun and Clary would love to have her big sister with her on her eighteenth birthday" Simon told her and she smiled at him, a little sceptical.

Before she could say anything though he put his hands together as he was silently begging her. "ugh fine, I'll go out tonight." she gave in.

Simon had a gleeful look on his face. He had had a crush on, not only Clary his whole life but also Katherine. He knew it was wrong to like both sisters but he couldn't help but fall for them, the Fray Sisters would be the death of him one day and he didn't mind at all.

Katherine picked up a packet of brown sugar and poured it into her latte. As she picked up her spoon she noticed on the top of the foam, there was a symbol. A symbol that she had seen before but couldn't recall where she had seen it.

"Clary's been a long time huh?" Simon asked nervously as he bit his thumb nail. Katherine shook her head and started to steer the sugar into her latte. "yeah I guess but that means it's a good thing Simon, they wouldn't keep you there that long if was to turn you away" Katherine pointed out and he nodded.

Katherine looked up from her latte to see her younger sister walking towards them with the look of complete sadness and disappointment. Katherine sighed sadly for her sister while Simon jumped up out of his seat. "Give me the professors names and I will end them. You know with a scathing e-mail to the Dean"

Both Fray Sisters gave Simon a weird look as Clary sat her bag on the floor and her portfolio on the table. "don't bother" Clary mumbled as she passed a letter over to Katherine, who sat opposite Clary.

Katherine sighed as she opened the letter as Simon read it over her shoulder. At the top of the letter, they both read what the word in bright red said. It read Congratulations.

"oh my god! Clary congrats little sis" Karly practically yelled as she pulled her sister in to a hug. Clary laughed and hugged her back. "thanks Katherine"

"what... Sad face, really?" Simon asked with a small smile on his face while the sisters giggled at him. "well played, well played" Simon and Clary did their little fist bump as Simon said this and Karly shook her head at them as she took her place next to Simon.

"thank you. You know what's weird? They kinda liked my assigned work but they flipped out over the drawings for our graphic novel" Clary told them both.

"you're welcome" Simon grinned and Katherine smacked him around the head for his cheekiness. "ow" Simon complained as he rubbed his head.

"today will go down in history as the greatest eighteenth birthday I've ever had" Clary told them and Katherine rolled her eyes. "well duh you only turn eighteen once, Care Bear" she commented and Simon chuckled whereas Clary ignored the smartass comment.

"which is why we're celebrating tonight, yes with Maureen after our show" Katherine raised her eyebrow at the mention of Maureen. Maureen and Simon have been in a band together for a while and Simon was obvious to the fact that his band mate was practically in love with him.

A waitress came over and put down the trios drinks and Katherine thanked her even though she already had one. "absolutely. So.... What's the deal with you and Maureen?" Clary asked Simon as she picked up her biscotti.

Katherine turned to Simon with a smirk on her face as she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. "what deal? No deal, we sing together" Simon stammered and Katherine sighed, putting down her latte as Clary put down her biscotti.

"seriously Simon? You didn't know she's been crushing on you this entire time?" Katherine frowned at him. "what? No... No"

"Simon how can someone as smart and perceptive as you not realise that the person sitting right there is in love with you?" Katherine asked him as Clary nodded in agreement with her sister.

Simon stared at them with a longing stare and chuckled. "I can guarantee you that I'm not the only smart and perceptive person to make that mistake" Simon answered and Clary frowned, confused as she looked down at her latte and biscotti, which had disappeared.

"that's a latte" Simon pointed at the coffee mug and Clary shook her head. "I could have sworn I had a biscotti"

"maybe you ate it really fast and didn't even notice. Happens to me all the time when I'm happy... When I'm sad" Simon told them as they laughed at him and he smiled brightly, picking up his own biscotti. "but I will replace your mythical biscotti with an actual one"

"thank you" Clary thanked him as he passed it to her. Katherine smiled at them both and picked up her latte. "you know what? Here's to you Care Bear" Katherine said holding up her mug in the middle of them. Simon and Clary both picked up their mugs and touched it to hers.

"L'chaim" they said in a sync and started to drink their lattes. Katherine could feel that things were about to change for them but she didn't know if it was a bad thing or a good thing.
