It was new years eve. Only two weeks before Walker had found out that I like him. It was the most terribly awkward day of my life. But it was okay, turns out I'm one of his top crushes. Unfortunately for me, he has about seven of those. The little player.
Anyway, it was new years eve. The city youth comity was having a dance down at the LDS church house and somehow my friends convinced me to go.
I got there five minutes before my friends and I had to stand alone for that long. It wasn't terrible, but I felt like the chapel greeter welcoming in-actives. But, eventually, my friends showed up to save me.
I was thrilled to see that Walker came. And it must have been evident, because upon seeing me he took my hand and kissed it. Thats when my face started burning. I was red the rest of the night.
The party went on like parties normally do. I danced with Walker twice and Lon once. Both were enjoyable, and humiliating in some ways, but good all the same.
In between them I ran around with my girl friends avoiding unwanted company of the more unattractive boys in the room. The whole time we were laughing and dancing around.
Eventually, the last dance of the night was announced. Eager to avoid a dance with the less suitable, but anxious to dance with Walker, I sat down with a few of my friends. I waited on the edge of my seat. Suddenly I spotted two boys making their way to me. Sean and Walker were pacing toward me. Sean hesitated a moment seeing Walker was advancing, closing his window of opportunity. He started walking faster, nearly scrambling to get to me. I watched out of my peripheral vision, silently preying that Walker would reach me first.
Moments later a hand was extended to me. "You honor me with you company on this dance, Miss Bennett?" I looked up to Walker and smiled as red colored my cheeks. I took his hand and stood, then allowing him to lead me off to a quite corner. He waisted no time pulling me into him, wrapping one arm around my back and resting his hand on my waist, and grasping my hand with his other. I've always found his dancing style extra hot. He prefers a box-step or a waltz over the simple sway that most couples do at dances.
We hardly talked at all, he simply stared at me. I found it slightly intense and humiliating, but I appreciated the attention.
The song wasn't even half way through when everyone started counting down to midnight. The clock struck twelve and balloons rained down from the ceiling and we all shouted "happy new year". I stood there in the lights for a moment as a few couples shared a kiss, as was it customary. Then I felt a sudden hand on my arm. I turned to Walker, who again wrapped his arm around me, drawing me into him. For a second I was mortified. Then with a mischievous grin he drew a Hershey's Kiss from his pocket and held it up to me. I couldn't help laughing as I took it. He smiled down at me, and taking my right hand in his, wished me a happy new year. Then he kissed my hand again before he left. My heart was really fluttering now.
