I was greeted by three loud screams. I laughed as a blonde head popped between the driver’s seat and mine. Tristan beamed from the back seat. Connor had his face in his phone, and his eyes were illuminated by the flashing light. James was in the front seat, and he flashed a smile.
“Hey, yeah, girly,” James said.
“Hello,” I replied, sitting with my bag in my lap. Brad came in the rear seat, and sat behind me.
“Hope you don’t mind, the boys are over tonight,” Brad said, leaning over to whisper.
“It’s your house, mate, I don’t mind,” I shrugged. James shifted into drive and we slowly went off down the street. We were only several blocks away, but James didn’t want to risk any accidents. I called my Nan and told her I’d be at a friend’s house because of the storm. She said it was fine, and she hoped it was a boy. She thinks I need a boyfriend. I blushed when she said that. I was in a car full of three attractive boys, not counting Brad because he’s off limits. He was my best mate, no thanks.
“So where do you live that you couldn’t get home?” Asked Tristan, leaning forward between the seats. I turned slightly to him.
“I live fifteen minutes out of London, and my Nan doesn’t drive anymore,” I explained.
“A likely story,” James joked, turning to me, then quickly back to the road. I smiled and turned back to Brad, who was on his phone.
“Is Natalie home?” I asked.
“Yeah, but my parents are on an anniversary vacation, so they won’t be home for another week,” Brad said, not once looking up from his phone. The rest of the ride was silent. Now that I had a good look at the boys, I do remember seeing them around Brad a while back. But Connor wasn’t as familiar as the others.
The car slowed at the front of a tall, sandstone building with clean white trimmings. We stepped out, and Brad, Connor, and Tristan ran up the front steps. James helped me over a slush puddle and onto the pavement. I followed him up the front steps. Brad was fumbling with the keys when the front door opened. A girl in a large t-shirt and shorts was at the door. Natalie. Her hair was messy as though she’d only just awoke, but she looked immensely cross.
“BRADLEY WILLIAM-“
“Natalie-“ Brad said, slightly embarrassed.
“YOU LEFT WITH YOUR LITTLE FRIENDS IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT-“
“Natalie, it’s nine thirty.”
“YOU COULD’VE DIED DRIVING IN THAT STORM-“
“James was only going like two feet per minute-“
“NO NOTE, CAR GONE-“
“HI NATALIE!” I shouted over the argument. Everyone turned to me, and Natalie gasped.
“OH MY LORD, ANDREA!” She exclaimed, pushing everyone out of the way to hug me.
“Don’t yell at Brad, it was my fault. I told him to come get me,” I said, hugging her back. I winked at Brad of Natalie’s shoulder, and he mouth the words Thank You, with a very cheeky smirk.
