“Connor, get up,” I said quietly, “Connor, there’s ink all over the pillow case.”
“Mmm?” Connor murmured. His voice croaked as he moaned, rolling over. I sat up, my head rubbing against the roof of the castle Connor had made last night. Suddenly the sheet ran across my head, flying back into the center of the room. James stood beside Tristan and Georgie, all of them looking at us. I quickly smoothed out the static taking over my hair.
“Is this where you’ve been?” James asked. I felt my face steadily growing warm.
“Connor wanted to build a fort,” I said, squinting at the overflow of light pouring in from between the curtains.
“I what?” He muttered from beside me, looking up, his eyes barely open.
“Did you draw on each other’s faces or-“
“Brad,” I said, Connor muttering to himself.
“Figures,” Tristan said, turning to James.
“Hey, let’s get that off your face,” Georgie said, taking me by the hand. I stood and Georgie dragged me to the bathroom down the corridor. I was blinded by the small sun tiles lining the walls of the bathroom. She rubbed my face under hot water and I yawned as she scrubbed. It felt as though she was peeling my face back, layer by layer. But it was either this or keeping the sharpie penis drawn on my forehead.
“So how’s Tristan?” I asked.
“What- No, we didn’t do anything,” Georgie said, “But you looked pretty disheveled when you woke up today.”
“We just fell asleep together, we didn’t-“
“That’s what they all say,” Georgie sang. I turned dark red.
“I’ve only known them for a few days, Georgie. I’m not a slag,” I scoffed as I scrubbed my cheeks, trying to hide my blush.
“Sleeping around doesn’t make you a slag because you’re not cheating on anyone,” Georgie said, “Sleeping around just means you like sex.”
“Well, you’re right, but I didn’t even-“
There were several knocks on the door.
“Y’know, the bathroom isn’t a chat hall!” Brad said, knocking on the door.
“Yeah well, it’s your fault I need to rinse my face, yeah!” I shouted, “Give me two seconds, alright?”
Luckily, Brad had only used a washable marker. It smelled of Sharpie, but it all came off quickly. My skin was still raw from all of the scrubbing, and I patted my face as it burned. I opened the door and Bra d was leaning against the wall. He shoved past me and ran into the loo, slamming the door. James walked out of one of the nearby rooms.
“I’m heading out, it was nice to meet you guys,” James said, holding a hand out to Georgie. Georgie smiled and shook his hand. James held a hand out to me, and I shook. Before I let go, he kissed my knuckles and winked as he pulled away and jogged downstairs.
“Wahey,” Georgie said quietly.
“Don’t you dare,” I said harshly.
